I hope everyone stays safe! It's not supposed to be terrible here, just a lot of rain and high wind gusts, which could knock out power. This house has weathered lots of storms, and we've never had problems with flooding so I'm not really worried. We did bring in all the lawn furniture and trash barrels and anything else that could be blown away. What I am worried about is the animal shelter, because it is such a rickety falling down building. Our vet has already offered to board animals if we need a safe place to move them to.

I had the choice between staying here in my hotel in Philadelphia or trying to drive back to NYC. I chose Philadelphia, because my cats are here with me and the traffic going back is already bad. Plus I've got water, cat food, books, and 3/4 of a vegan pizza in the fridge. Otherwise, just hoping for the best. Stay safe, fellow PPK-ers!

My school is somewhat notorious for refusing to close during storms. Most other nearby universities have closed by now. Sometimes I like that we don't close often, but I'm a bit concerned. Okay, mostly I don't feel like doing my work for tomorrow because I just want to curl up under a blanket. Still, we're mostly a commuter campus, and though I don't have any trouble getting to class, I'm sure lots of people will. At least we're on a hill and not near water.
It's starting to get a bit windy, but no rain yet.

Everybody here is kinda freaked out. I just hate the rescheduling. My doctor kept the appointment today. And husband has the flu so got some meds for him, before it's the full force hurricane and he has nothing.

Schools are closed in the town where I work, but the library hasn't decided to close yet. I really don't want to make the commute in that kind of nasty weather, but I don't have enough sick time to take the day off. Close! Please!

Stay safe everyone! Don't forget to store some clean water- three days for each being in your house. You can use your bathtub if you clean it first and need to store water for dishes, toilet flushing, etc.
A lot of people I know buy cheap toys at the beginning of hurricane season and keep them for when the power is out and there is no going outside. Then they can pull out the surprise exciting toy to entertain the kids. It's something to consider for next season.

Tip for anyone with dogs.... if you have kongs mash up some banana and peanut butter, fill the kongs and pop them in the freezer. It will keep them occupied a bit longer than usual if it is frozen. I know it won't keep them happy for the whole time. Great chance to work on new tricks with them too. It will tire them out mentally. And if your dog is anything like my energy wise...... God grant you the world's worth of patience.

You guys are all in luck. I am in NoVa and every time in my life that I have been in an, "OMG the weather is going to kill us all " type storm/hysteria it has turned out to be some rain and mild wind. So, don't worry!
Maybe not, but I am here visiting my inlaws. I cannot be stuck in the house for two more days with nothing to do and a baby who holds onto the door and cures to go outside. I cannot.

Even without trees knocking down lines, transformers will blow in sustained high winds. I remember one time watching four or five in succession go POW! with a flash of green light. Rather unsettling.

I dunno littebear. The latest data isn't leaving much wiggle room at all. Now it's mostly degrees of how bad is bad.

I was on vacation in Maine with my mom and was supposed to fly home Monday, but JetBlue is amazing and waived any kind of change fees/price difference charges and let me reschedule to today at 4pm. I was actually kind of worried I wouldn't make it, but I think I got home JUST under the wire. Took a cab home to avoid getting stuck inside the subway system, which closed down at 7p.
Work emailed everyone saying our building is closed tomorrow. Who knows what's going to happen Tuesday. I just wanted to be home with my boyfriend and our kitties in case they make us evacuate.

Our building will be closed too, since it's right on the water. I will be working from home, provided I don't lose power. At least everybody in my family is home at last. My ex sister in law thought it was a good idea to let her daughter go to Fire Island yesterday (which was already under mandatory evacuation order!!). Then she went off with parents' old car upstate, and it broke down on the way back today. At 4pm. 3 hours away from the bridges being shut down.
My brother picked her up and I was glad I was not a passenger in that car on the way home. But everybody is home now...

Oh geez Angelina. CEO emailed, we're working from home as much as is possible. (Lots of my work is dependent on physical stuff at the office, so we'll see how this goes.)

Ugh. Latest from the NWS is making things look worse for DC.
We are mostly worried about trees here. We have some big ones in our yard.

I keep hearing about people going crazy in grocery stores. everything here was pretty calm. we went shopping today for some TP, and it was a little crowded, but like..that means there were 2 people in line ahead of us instead of none. no one was going nuts and things were well stocked. I've been hearing about people in other areas scrambling for the last loaf of bread that someone dropped on the floor. what the heck. i feel pretty luck that my neighborhood is chill.
