She had to go in during Irene but her shift ended before it got really bad.

Gotta ask. Why do people always go buy TP during storms?
I buy that, in bulk, on sale or at Costco and stash it in the utility closet. It is something I only worry about buying every couple of months.
What gives?

Hurricane parties are a huge thing. Or just people who are freaked out about the storm. When I waitressed, the restaurant was always full during bad weather.

I also have to admit that after living in SF and running a farmers market that every week had winds around 35 mph, the storm here doesn't upset me. That is probably dumb, but some wind andraindint see that scary. Maybe I will feel differently in 24 hours. I'll keep you updated.

In the winter we have winds like that pretty regularly. Trust me, it is hard to keep a tent at a farmers market tied down at 35 mph.

One of my scariest driving experiences was actually in Southern California during the Santa Anas (wind gusts from the mountains) and rain. I was going very slowly and could barely see and my car was getting thrown around. Last thing I want is wind & rain and driving, especially with the ways trees seem to fall here like dominoes. And I am hoping my doctor will be closed tomorrow, either way I'll gladly pay whatever missed appointment fee especially since my doc is closer to the coast than I am.

I can understand the TP thing. It's one of those things you don't want to run out of. I checked mine today just in case. Yes I only buy every couple months, but what if its time?

I actually don't think the media is overhyping this other than variability in flooding, etc. luckily soils aren't already saturated; that will help. The big thing with Sandy is that it's, we'll, BIG, and slow. It is going to do a lot over a large area. Another complication is that a lot of,the areas in the path aren't exactly expert at dealing with extreme weather (yeah, DC, looking at you). Because of the blocking pattern, Sandy can't really go anywhere else except up the east coast. Normally, going out to sea would be an option. I just worry that people aren't taking it seriously because Irene was a "bust."

We stocked up on food, water and wine. I am in Central Jersey but not on the coast so not sure what to expect but we had a bad time with Irene. I have one bad tree that wasn't removed yet so,,yeah there is that. No school or work for the next two days and a state of emergency since noon. But..and this is for Kelly who will appreciate it :) My daughter's soccer game was on at 3pm as scheduled.

Its moving really slow. I thought this was a very concise explanation of why Sandy is a superstorm http://news.yahoo.com/5-reasons-why-san ... 50549.html

I really have no clue what to expect here (coastal SE Mass). I still have work tomorrow, despite emailing my boss and hoping he'd tell me to stay home (no dice). I'm really only worried about my drive home, around 4:30-5, when the wind is supposed to be at its worst and I have a 45 minute drive on three highways. That should be fun.
I assume it'll be much worse in the mid-atlantic area though; I hope all of you stay safe and it turns out not to be too bad!

Yep, that's what I said: it is both big and slow, so it will impact a lot of people for a lengthy period of time.

What gives? for us, it's an issue of room. we have exactly no closet or storage space. so we can really only deal with a 4 or 6 pack at a time. and we happened to be a little low.

yeah, we only buy 4 rolls at a time due to storage space and the fact that we don't have a car. so, we wanted to have double TP on hand in case we can't get to the store for a while.

A funny comment I saw on Facebook regarding the bad weather TP hoarding phenomenon:

One of my friends is freaking out right now because the LSAT people just announced that the release of the October scores will be delayed due to the storm.

We don't fight over TP for hurricanes here. It's water, bread, batteries and gas. After a storm, a lot of our stations run out and then we can't get to school/work without payin the few places that try to gouge.
