Wow, there's some live footage on the news right now of the weather in New Jersey, and all I can say is holy shiitake.

I'm in Falls Church, vA and not much is happening. Rain, some wind, but nothing intense yet. I haven't watched tv today. Going to download some movies and charge my iPad just in case!

I buy that, in bulk, on sale or at Costco and stash it in the utility closet. It is something I only worry about buying every couple of months.
What gives? I guess not everyone is as prepared and forward-thinking as you! So, on the news, they keep emphasizing over and over about how the people who live on the coast NEED TO LEAVE NOW THIS IS A BIG DEAL but what about the poor reporters who they keep cutting to who are standing on the beach? I feel bad for them. Well jeez, I wasn't being snarky. It's just that TP is always one of the first things to sell out and a bunch of people mentioned it here. I've always tried to buy paper goods etc on sale, so I just genuinely wondered why this is "a thing." Anyway. Pressure is now down to 950mb, which is super low, so this thing is getting stronger, as some of the worst case models predicted. Just saw this update on the weather blog I linked earlier. I wasn't being snarky either . . . it was a compliment!

shiitake, my air conditioner is still in my window and it's too heavy for me to bring in by myself. Ugh, I guess I'll have to ask one of my parents to help me tonight. It's right over the driveway and I don't want it to fall and land on one of the cars.
So far, nothing bad here. A bit windy and some rain. One of the dogs at the shelter was freaking out, so we put a thunder shirt on him and let him stay in the office.

I went for a 2 hour nap and I woke up to a real sense of panic on the news. It is seriously intense. There is constant coverage over here. The only time it seems to break is if it is to give the headlines of what else is going on in the world with the occasional bit of Jimmy Saville investigation updates. I've never seen coverage this intense BEFORE a hurricane hits.

I'm thinking about all of you guys!
Most of my family are in the Atlantic City area, this is all freaking me out so badly. I was bawling looking at the poor boardwalk.

Over here in south Jersey braving the storm! shiitake is getting nuts outside. We still have power for now. But I've been cooking and baking all day because I am expecting the power to go out at some point.
Stay safe everyone! The pictures on the news are scary, but they are saying that some pics are shopped and people are submitting fake photos to the news.

There have been a few pictures of Ocean City, MD being completely under water. Those seem believable because there are multiple photos showing it.

Pretty much every picture I've seen has given me a mini panic attack until I realize I'm nowhere near that shiitake. fork weather. I'm in Tennessee and it's windy as h*ck here. I can't even imagine what it's like on the coast.

Quote: Con Ed Warns of a Possible Power Shutoff At the headquarters of Consolidated Edison near Union Square, company executives were expecting Hurricane Sandy to cause a record number of their customers to lose power. But the strong winds that would cause those problems are not the company’s primary concern. The most critical question is how high the water in New York Harbor will rise on Monday evening. If the forecasts prove accurate, the storm surge will cause so much flooding in Lower Manhattan and possibly also in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn that Con Edison will take the unprecedented step of shutting off entire electrical networks because of weather.
The networks would be shut down as a pre-emptive move to protect underground equipment. The three networks the company is considering turning off serve about 35,000 customers. But the total number of people affected would be a multiple of that number, Mr. Miksad said, because in some cases a single meter covers a large number of apartments. The tidal forecasts show the water rising 10 to 12 feet above normal. “We suspect that if we get to the upper end of that 10- to 12-foot range, we will not be O.K.” http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012 ... sandy.html

I am homesick like crazy for New England because of this (weird, right?).
I hope you're all staying safe and warm and dry! And I hope all the pets are nice and secure and that all the wild animals and strays are finding safe places to be!
