What options do I have?

Previous to vegan diet I was allergic to dairy milk and I have never drank animal milk in my life, which means I don't use the "milk" for anything other than the 1/2 cup here and there in recipes; so, if I buy the liquid soy/rice milk, I just end up chucking out large amounts, or gulping down glasses and glasses of stuff I really don't like -- either way, it is a waste. I am just not interested in using it for cereal or the usual milk uses. I haven't had a lot of success in freezing any of these products so I need an alternative.

Is there something like instant milk powder that exists in a non-animal form? I tried to google this but I wasn't getting any hits with the wording I was using.

Oh yeah, if it can be something other than almond based because I am allergic to almonds....which really sucks because I tasted almond milk and I loved it until the 283 sneezes took over the rest of my evening.

How about soy milk powder?

That is what I want. I don't have a whole foods near me to walk around and discover these things for myself. I figured something must exist but didn't know what the they are called....yep, I am that stupid!!

not stupid, they aren't really drinkable so i think people don't know what to do with them! i keep it in the pantry and use it for recipes about 90% of the time, since stuff in cartons is so expensive. it works really well, even in those recipes where you need to add vinegar to make a "buttermilk".

is powdered soy and rice milk interchangeable?

I buy powdered "better than soy milk" for food sciencey uses, not necessarily drinking, but i think it tastes fine

I need to get some of that, and some vegan powdered soy creamer, so I can veganize my homemade hot chocolate powder.

Do you have a blender? Sesame seeds, hemp seeds, cooked rice, peanuts etc can be shoved in a bender with water and turned into a passable milk.

That's what I do too. Works even better with with nut/seed butters like tahini or sunflower butter. Add about a tablespoon of nut butter to a cup of water, blend and get very creamy 'milk'.

I also like oatmilk from uncooked oats.

^^ My blender actually went up in a quite impressive puff of smoke a few days back (coffee grinder went the next day so I am waiting for number 3) so I won't be able to try that til I replace it however, blending up those ingredients or nut paste are both great suggestions that I will try after replacement blender comes in. Thanks for the suggestions.

You can also try buying the shelf stable kind in the 8 oz containers. I have seen them sold as singles, or in a pack. They are shelf stable, and they are good for a long time. This way you can open them one at a time when you need them. I have seen rice milk in containers like this too. (also, they taste waaaaay better than soy milk powder in my opinion. especially for drinking/for cereal etc)

I use that better than milk soy powder in my cocoa mix too, but i've never tried drinking it. Never really a milk drinker anyway.
