cilantro rules, stevia drools. I hate stevia so much, although I grow it every year because I like to eat a fresh leaf while wandering in the garden, its one of those intirguing disgusting tastes. when i try to put those same leaves in tea, I have to throw the cup away. Give me an xmas stocking full of cilantro or socks, I'll take it. Stevia, worst xmas ever!

This brings up so many questions for me... Like, am I a bad dog owner because I've never given Amos fake chocolate at Christmas? Why only at Christmas? And how do you know what fake Christmas dog chocolate tastes like, anyway?

I don't know that I've ever tasted stevia, except for nibbling on a fresh leaf. Which didn't take too weird, just sweet, I guess.

Just saw this when monkeytoes quoted it. Why are you eating fake xmas chocolate for dogs? Hahahaha.

I'm curious as to where one could get some? You know, so maybe my dog could try some?

You get it at the pet store... it's just typical dog cookies dipped in carob, usually :P

Also, for me, the carob-chocolate thing is like the stevia-sugar thing. No want.

I'm not a fan of cilantro/fresh coriander leaves (as we call it in Oz), and yes, it tastes kinda soapy, unless it's used in small amounts in the right dishes. I really don't like coriander seeds either.

Buuuut - Stevia - how awful is that stuff? We bought a plant, and I made the mistake of chewing on a leaf one day -it was like someone had applied chemical sugar wash all over my mouth - that sweetness did *not* leave. Was super spooky.

I bought some liquid stevia years ago off the internet. The guy who sent me it also emailed me about 10 pages about how awesome stevia is. I tasted it and it tasted like chemically death. Like the stuff you put on your fingernails to stop you biting them. forking. Gross.

I haven't tried it since, although they are selling the Truvia sweetener in the supermarket and was tempted to give it a go for about 5 minutes, because the sweeteners I'm putting in my coffee at the moment are also forking gross. Maybe I'll just learn to go back to not putting sugar in my coffee.

Stevia is vile, I bought some from a health food shop in its pure powder form. It was a green powder.
It tasted rank - like I'd eaten soap powder. And I felt angry at all the health food bloggers for advocating how amazing it is.
At the same time there's been so much scare mongering going around, Sugar makes you fat and forks up your blood sugar really bad, agave nectar is apparently no better and the low GI thing is a lie, sweeteners give you cancer and soon enough everyone's going to be hating on the fruit sugar.
And maybe it's true I don't know, I'm just pished because I have a savage sweet tooth.

I MUST ADMIT THAT I REALLY LIKE STEVIA. I USED TWO PACKETS IN MY COFFEE THIS MORNING. WHY AM I CAPS YELLING?

HOWEVER. I was (and I suppose still am) addicted to the overly sweetness of artificial sweeteners, and I think stevia mimics that. And it's at least better for me than those forking chemicals.

It's fine with mint tea, okay with pumpkin tea, and disgusting with ginger tea. And I won't try it with anything that isn't in a cup.

I am clearly the weirdo in this thread because I'm ambivalent about both cilantro and stevia.

Cilantro is okay in some dishes, but I wouldn't buy it/ go out of my way to add it to things. As for stevia, I can understand finding it gross, but it's okay in some things. . . it's pretty good in iced tea and sometimes in hot tea and coffee. I haven't tried stevia-sweetened chocolate, but that sounds pretty gross.

My poor mom used a packet in her coffee this morning :( We'd run out of sugar and when I left for school, she used stevia, thinking it was like sugar.

She says it's like "chemical and salty tasting".

Artificial sweeteners, if combined well, taste infinitely better than stevia. I use them in my teas, lemonade, puddings, custards... I haven't used them for baking yet, I'm afraid texture wouldn't be right. They don't taste like sugar, but near enough for me.

I was able to stomach stevia in teas, but after it ruined my cake, I threw it away.

I'm also ambivalent about cilantro / coriander leaves.

That's because it was illegal in the EU until last year-ish. I've only tried one stevia "sugarcube" and it was horrible.
