Mavala Black since Saturday. Took three coats to get it opaque and it's showing major tip wear now. I actually got a huge chip at the club on Saturday, but I fixed that yesterday.

I broke my pointer finger all the way down on Halloween, so I decided to get fake nails because I was really sad about not being able to paint my nails for Halloween.

I wore them for about 15 minutes, during which time three of them came off. One fell down the back of my shirt while I was fixing my pony tail and I never found it, so I ripped them all off and just cut the rest of my nails pretty short.

Then I banged my thumb into the doorway and split that nail past the quick, I had to clip and sand the shiitake out of it to stop it from catching on things. So I still won't be painting my nails for a few days and will instead, sigh at previews of holiday collections.

Does anyone know of a black with a metallic finish? I want a finish like Butter's Chimney Sweep or Big Smoke but black. Does it exist?

I've never found polishes at TJ Maxx, going to have to start checking there. I bought Emberstone at a Sally's sale and wasn't too in love with it, but liked it enough. But it's one of those colors that just looks super gorgeous when the light hits it.

Regular polish chips on me within a day or so. But more annoyingly I've discovered that I cannot keep polish on my little toes for more than a day, it just peels off them in a oner! So annoying. I used to be able to make a pedi last for weeks.

I feel like I say this every time but China Glaze Emerald Fitzgerald is the slowest drying nail polish ever... I had to go out half an hour or so after painting my nails and now some of my nails have imprints from my gloves. Is all China Glaze like this (it's the only one I have)?

Interesting question in general though fruitbat. How long does everyone generally wait before doing stuff after painting your nails? I try to wait an hour after putting on topcoat to be really confident that I'm not going to mess things up.

I used some of the new Julep suedes this weekend. I absolutely love how they look and how quickly they dry, but I swear they started chipping and looking like crepe just two hours later. It's crazy.

I use Seche Vite, and same as bluedawg - good after about 10 minutes. I love that stuff, even if it does smell awful!

I cannot imagine not doing anything for a whole hour! I expect to be able to do things without forking up my manicure after 20 min or so. Usually it's fine after 10? I still feel painting my nails takes too much time. I always remember stuff I need to do right after I started.

Chanel Rouge Carat. Sparkling pinkish leaning red. Its pretty and matches the purple and red Chanel scarf I'm wearing tomorrow as a belt with my purple sweater (was a gift from Dutch mustard circa 2000, but I won't hold that against it). Scarf is a cool abstract design. I don't wear it often enough--every 3 years it seems, but it matches this sweater perfectly.

I feel coordinated.

I use Seche Vite too (love that stuff so much) and it is touch dry in about a minute. I'm happy to put shoes on etc after about 10. But regular polish takes a good few hours to actually properly dry fully. So that's why you can still get duvet marks in your polish even if you paint them a good hour before going to bed.

I'm joining you guys too, I don't think I've ever made it past 12 hours without chips and I usually paint my nails in the evening so that's not a great effort!

I used to be able to keep my manicures looking nice for a week or more! Now a few days and it's ruined. The only difference I can see is that I was using some strange remover that smelled like apples that my sister gave me. It was a huge bottle and lasted forever, and now I can't find it anywhere. I didn't even use top/base coats at all then either.

hmm. I guess I'm being a little over-cautious then. I use a quick dry topcoat too... not just polish. Maybe I'll have to do some experimentation.

People who get chipped polish so quickly, are your nails really short? I find that really short nails take a lot longer to chip since they don't come into contact with much. I intentionally keep my nails short now.

Livi is in! No matter what I do it's peeling off a LOT within 12 or so hours.
