I am sad at the fundamental misunderstanding of the issue demonstrated by some of the responses. The guy who said that marriage is a religious issue not a secular one clearly missed the memo that our government issues secular marriage licenses every, single day. My DH and I were married by my gay step dad who got ordained online in 30 seconds. Most churches would not recognize my marriage, but if I cared about that I would have had a religious ceremony. Yet the government still recognizes my marriage.

Ugh.
Just ugh.

Gross.

After just having read The Handmaid's Tale, these are freaking me out.
That is, more than they normally would.

I still want to know how other people getting married impacts these jackasses. Every millisecond, somebody gets drunk and gets married in Vegas and my life doesn't change. It also doesn't change when they go to Reno after they sober up. All these stupid forks need to be equally dividing their time between no gay marriage activism and no divorce activism, because otherwise their whole sanctity of marriage crepe argument makes no sense. Also, I doubt they know what a big word like "sanctity" means since critical thinking skills seem lacking. We don't vote on religious issues. We vote on secular issues. So, that whole argument falls apart.

What does impact my life is seeing other people be happy. I like that.

I'm extra angry because I've had recorded calls from Huckabee today about this critical issue.

Virginia is already forked on this issue (because of Southern Baptist democrat Obama voters, not the religious right), so I'm really, really hoping Maryland does it right.

what the fizzle. I don't understand adults who are like this. I was against gay marriage as a CHILD because it's what I learned from my parents, but the moment I started thinking for myself more I realized how wrong I was. How can you read books and meet people and still be against gay marriage? I give up.

Almost 15 years ago my Dad's partner passed away. He had not made the best money choices before he met my Dad, and he had a lot of credit card debt. When the debt collectors would call my Dad would always tell them to tell their bosses to support gay marriage. When the confused customer service rep would ask what he was talking about he would say, "If we had been allowed to marry, his debt would be my debt. But since we weren't, legally we were just roommates, and his debt dies with him. Too bad too, because I have a lot of money."

Sometimes I feel like I should be beyond being personally affected by this shiitake because I know we are on the side that is winning but when I'm in a bad mood I'm just like REALLY THIS IS WHAT YOU THINK OF ME?? And then I want to punch them and I don't even know how to punch people, I'm super pacifist!

Looking at those pictures made me despair for the world.

And then I clicked the link at the bottom of the page to Neil Patrick Harris's family Halloween pictures, and all was good with the world again. (Well, ok, it doesn't negate all the douchebags who are fighting against marriage equality, but it is forking adorable!)

ain't that the truth that nobody wants to hear about. i mean, really, if we're founded on the bible, let's go back to all of it-- hairshirts, sabbath and stonings. Start with the politicians, of course.

Some issues I can hear cogent arguments that at least explain the logic of the person's position, even if I don't even come close to agreeing with them, I can get where they are coming from and at least, at some level respect them. The anti-gay crowd, however, is beyond all forking comprehension. I have NEVER heard a single argument against equal marriage that holds up to the slightest ethical, legal, or even rational scrutiny.

And to the guy with the arrow pointing toward his (assumed) girlfriend...what the hell does that have to do with anything??? Is she going to run off and get gay-married the second it's legalized, so he's making sure she's stuck with him if she wants a legally protected partnership?

Also, what's up with the furries?

This makes me so sad. There are a lot of churches that are in support of gay marriage and I think it makes so much more sense. So much of the scriptures stress love. It's baffling that people want to focus on some lines that were clearly a cultural and historical artifact rather than the underlying principles of what makes for a good society.

Don't you know? If gay marriage bills pass, all heterosexual couples will have to divorce and be forced to gay marry.

That's what I was wondering - if gay marriage is bad, surely inter-species wild animal marriage can't be okay.
