Fox called it for Tammy Baldwin. Haven't seen CNN mention it yet.

Our local had Tammy andTommy within a few hundred of each other. So it keeps switching...I'm hopeful. Also weird watching it with my partner who is right wing (luckily not GOP) instead of someone with whom I am more politically similar

Shoot. I got my time for kids magazines in my mailbox after school today. Won't be so relevant tomorrow (I hope).

I'm going to call it for Kaine. I don't see Allen regaining his lead with the precincts yet to report.
Obama is picking up votes. Now he is down only 30k or so. He could do it.

okay more questions to show I really have no knowledge of how my own country's election works. So the news channels are showing the popular votes and the electoral votes. Is the electoral college just a figurative phrase, or are there actual people that still vote? And when does that actually take place? Can a state split it's electoral votes? For instance if Florida is really that close, shouldn't half their electoral votes go for one and the other half go for another? How did I have a class called government in high school and not learn any of this stuff. Sorry too much rambling, I should go to bed.

Sorry too much rambling, I should go to bed. ok im not 100% sure i will get this correct but i believe each state gets a certain # of electoral votes based on their overall population. in the end the electoral votes are what wins the election. so there is a chance tonight that Mitt Romney will win the popular vote and lose the election. payback for 2000 when Al Gore won the popular vote and.....well we all know how that went....

How did I have a class called government in high school and not learn any of this stuff. Sorry too much rambling, I should go to bed. Each state is given so many votes, based on population sizes. The state generally will give all its vote to whoever wins the popular vote in its state. I think technically they can split their vote (and maybe 1 state does?) but they generally don't. So if a candidate wins a popular vote of a state, they are pretty much guaranteed the electoral college vote of the state. I believe this all goes back in history and is related to the idea of independence of states. So although we are all one country, we are composed of 50 states (yeah I know, duh) but each state votes for the president versus the individuals. There have been 4 or 5 instances in history where a president lost the popular vote but won the electoral vote.

21,000 votes down now in VA. (I know, VA isn't the only state, buts it's a nail biter)

It's over! Iowa and Ohio did it. Currently trying to find out about the four states with gay marriage on the ballot (as much as it sucks that civil rights are subject to popular vote).
