Too late, Puerto Rico. You can't become the 51st state, because America died last night.

how is Puerto Rico possibly becoming the 51st state not huge news? i hadnt heard about this til right now!
im really so pleased with this election. not just because the dude i voted for won but it seems like SO MANY women candidates were elected, the first openly gay senator was elected, gay marriage became legal in 3 (?) more states, marijuana was legalized in 2 (?) states.
i am bummed though about Cali and the death penalty staying the GMO labeling not passing.

It seems odd that in the same night voters would choose to fully legalize marijuana in 2 states, but not make truthful food labeling a law.
Well, maybe not that odd, different voters and it isn't about health.
I heard that the food industry put out some heavy FUD telling people food prices would go up.
Still, I can NOT complain:
- no romney - no ryan - Warren won - akin lost - murdoch lost - fully legal marijuana in Colorado - fully legal marijuana in Washington - medical marijuana in Massachuesettes
All of that in one night. paul ryan won

Please don't laugh too hard, but because Rupaul's Drag Race always includes queens from Puerto Rico, I kind of thought they already were the 51st state.

However, he was exposed by fact checkers in a very high profile way as being liar. He was also exposed to more people as being the heartless prick that he is.

I heard about PR yesterday but there has to have some magic for the US to accept PR as a state. Obama has reportedly said he would support whatever PR chooses to do so now he just has to help them make it happen.

Someone that I went to high school with posted this on Facebook: Quote: Trying to figure out how I'm going to explain ridiculous taxes to my kids when they are older. "Well kids, in 2012, people decided that hard work was not the way to get by in this world. They decided to depend on a broken government to provide for everything. Hard work and success was no longer rewarded, and debt was loved. Women wanted free birth control, and people wanted free cell phones. Even though NO other government programs seemed to really work (post office, Social Security, the current Medicare), we thought we should put them in charge of our healthcare, too." Wow. x_x Ugh.

Thing one I have to say) apparently two of my friends who were registered to vote - registered online weeks before the cut off date - were turned away at the polls saying they weren't on the list. What the shiitake is that?
Thing I have to say too) Someone on facebook talking about a civil war and then moving to Italy. I like that you plan on losing your own civil war, guys.

It makes me laugh, all the tweets from sore Repubs saying they're moving to Canada. They realize we are, um, way more socialist and democratic than what they're running from, right? Even with our conservative PM?

Yeah, the Ballot Measures just get like a tweet length description on the ballot and they are often confusing... But all the big chemical / GMO companies spent 1Mil / Day for like 2 months before the election on insane negative advertising. It was everywhere and it was super misleading! I also think all the people who didn't want to vote because they hate the "lesser of two evils" kind of race didn't come out to support local things like 37. (Even though this is CA, and we can vote 3rd party very safely, and you aren't required to vote on everything so people could have come just for the ballot measures...) I guess we just have to revise it and get it on the ballot again, or do a referendum like the conservatives did with gay marriage, except for good this time :)

I saw a post in FB today in reply to republicans saying they'll move to Australia and how they wouldn't like the atheist single woman that's in charge among a number of other things.

Marriage equality is still stuck at 52%-48% in favor, with 60% of the votes counted. They're still not calling it here but, in the context of the tight gubernatorial race, they're saying most of the votes left to be counted are from King County, which is Seattle's county and which skews left. So. I'm pretty hopeful that this thing is a done deal and we should know for sure by this afternoon. Election results will be certified on 12/5, people can start applying for marriage licenses on 12/6 and the first weddings can take place on 12/9!

I heard once upon a time that it was predetermined (by law, perhaps?) that the flag would no longer be changed with the addition of new states. Of course, I don't remember where/when I read/heard that. So I might be making it up.
