Help me like them. What are your favorite recipes? The only recipe for them I've tried is the one from Bryant Terry's book and it's good but I'd rather not fry stuff.

The Hottie Black Eyed Peas & Greens from AFR is one of my favorite things ever. I make it with the messy rice from V'Con.

I'll let you know how the black eyed pea soup is from YRR! I'm making it tonight because I had some dill I wanted to use up. I don't think I've actually ever used dried black eyed peas before, except for maybe in one of those 10 bean soup bags, so we'll see if that makes any difference in them kinda tasting like dirt.

I love black-eyed peas! They're great as tacos, bean salads, soups! I have a great salad that I make with pickled green apples, okra, and black eyed peas...But, there was also this recipe in the NYT for yellow-eye beans (which taste quite similar) that the boy and I LOVE, he voted it "best soup of all time." http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/29/magaz ... .html?_r=0

Another recommendation for the hottie black eyed peas and greens. It's ridiculously good.

Yet another vote for hottie black-eyed peas and greens. Also, the BBQ black-eyed pea and collard roll-ups (from V'Con) are amazing.

There is a black eyed pea dish in Chloe's Kitchen that is very good - southern skillet black eyed peas with cauliflower. It was really good and we made it a bit spicy but you can tone it down by skipping the cayenne.

I made the Chloe's Kitchen dish and I wanted to like it, but I didn't. I don't think I really like black-eyed peas at all. Which is weird because I am a bean lover.

Oh, I love black eye peas! I love that you don't need to soak them before cooking either. Favs: -Hottie Black Eye peas and greens. Literally one of my favorite recipes EVER. -Black Eye Pea Masala (fat free vegan) http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2010/01/bl ... asala.html-Collard Wraps (also FFV - I like subbing black eye peas much more than the red beans in the recipe) http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2010/04/co ... s-and.html-There are a couple of BYP recipes in Vegan Soul Kitchen that I like. Hopping john I think, and the BBQ baked beans. neither of them require frying, they are either stovetop cooked or baked. -I have an indian vegan cookbook, and there are a couple of recipes that use black eye peas in the curry dishes. It would be easy to just replace chickpeas or whatever in a curry recipe you already have with Black Eyed Peas.

The first time I ever ate black eyed peas was in Isa's Caribbean Curry Black Eyed Peas With Plantains: http://www.theppk.com/2010/09/caribbean ... plantains/Seriously tasty and very easy to make. Black eyed peas are very high on my list of favorite legumes now.

I make the ones from fatfreevegankitchen a lot. Just standard southern black eyed peas. I always use Jasmine rice and usually fix collards and corn bread too because I'm a southerner. :)

Do you have Joanna's Potluck Mania zine? The hopping John cakes are the best thing ever. I love them hot with steak sauce and potatoes and cold/plain for lunch. We make those a couple times a month, like clockwork.

Here's a recipe from the olde days when I used to hang out in the craigslist food forum(s). These are FRIED! Now, I did hear you: you are looking for not-fried; I am sharing for those times when you might like some fried.
For non-fried, we cook up BEPs with the holy trinity and eat with dirty rice. Boring, perhaps, but very tasty, and fast with a pressure cooker.
Black-Eyed Pea Fritters
1/2 lb. BEPs, soaked 4 garlic cloves, crushed 2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. black pepper 4 Tbsp. water High heat oil for frying 1 lime, cut into wedges
In a food processor, blend peas, garlic, salt, & pepper. Add water while processing, enough to make a thick puree.
Heat oven to 250F. In a skillet, heat 2-3 inches (yes, inches) oil and drop batter into oil in 1 Tbsp. doses. Fry, fry, fry until golden. Repeat until all batter has been used; keep fritters warm in oven on paper-lined trays. Squeeze lime wedges on top.

I've never cooked with them, and I actually don't know that I've ever eaten them. They don't seem real big up in these here parts.

So I made the hottie bep + greens and since I figured no one would eat it but me I used the full tbsp of franks. Anywho, it's awesome and even the husband loved it and the kid tolerated it! You guys rock.
