sometimes i think people feel bad for me because i have, like, five friends on facebook, but this is why. if i wouldn't want to sit in a room with you and listen to you gripe about shiitake, there's no reason for me to give you that kind of time or access in any medium.

I actually do like a lot of political things people post on Facebook, just not the ones that shiitake all over people's rights or whatever. For the most part I prefer that the awful people are open about it, though - better to learn about it on FB and quietly unfriend than having to deal with some offhand racist remark in the middle of a face-to-face conversation. Only for a few close family members and friends will I stick my fingers in my ears and try to ignore it; old college acquaintances aren't worth it and probably won't notice I'm gone anyway.

it's like they want the recognition or something. "i'll refuse to pay my fair share just so i can rake in the dough and then donate to the poor people that would have otherwise gotten some more cash in their paychecks (or had gotten free access to something they would have otherwise had to pay out the nose for) or whatever else."

they should rename the republican party to the "selfish party" seriously. it seems like all they care about is their immediate family, and if they do contribute outside their families, they don't do it selflessly.

One thing I've found really interesting, from my non-american perspective, is that everyone (and I mean everyone) over here is absolutely delighted with the result. Not so much "I'm glad Obama won" (though there were a lot of those), but "thank fork Romney lost". I think it scared a lot of people that someone as extreme (by my standards) as Romney was being taken seriously.

i love that alot of those people seem to blame the electoral college and are under the impression Romney won the popular vote by a landslide.

Oh your God. There is hope for humanity yet. The response both my wife and I got from her mom was borderline apologetic, and at the very least open minded and accepting that fox news had filled her mind with crepe. She went to Wikipedia...WIKIPEDIA of all places and discovered that indeed, Obama did not start the recession or the debt problem and in an instant she recognized the lies she's been fed for the past someteen years. We'll see how far this goes but that was as far from the expected response as either of us could have possibly imagined.

Hot damn. Voter turnout in my county is at least 84%. Could go higher because ballots postmarked Tuesday may not have been received yet. Not bad.

I can't find anything answering that. I found a site that shows that in 2008, women voted at a higher rate than the population as a whole, but it doesn't have 2012 stats up yet. Overall voter turnout was down from 2008.

and i found exit polls that say support for obama was down from women in 2008. hmm. (of course it's a teeny tiny sampling of people)
