So I'm realizing that our cat Tiffany loves certain foods. He's a weirdo (yes, it's a HE named Tiffany) and loves such snacks as:
- steamed/blanched broccoli - steamed green beans - steamed or roasted asparagus - crumbled tofu
He literally comes running and will attack if I even show a hint that I'm going to give him a piece. I feel though, in a way, that the steamed veggies and pieces of tofu are healthier snacks than a lot of the treats commercially available.
Should I be doing this? I'm fearful that I'm going to give him something that is toxic to cats without realizing it. Are there foods I should definitely avoid letting him have?
I want to be a good cat mom but also indulge his love of veggies!

i don't think any of those things are bad for cats. onions and garlic can be dangerous (as well as chives/scallions/anything in that family), like they are for dogs, and there are bad things that i can't imagine a cat wanting to munch on, like grapes and raisins and avocado pits.

I think its probably fine in small amounts as long as is not displacing other food. Cats eat grass (and then barf) so maybe veggies taste like grass to him.

We give one of our cats human foods occasionally so long as there's no onion, garlic, or chocolate involved. Hummus is a big favorite.

I meant to add that he also loves eating corn kernels! I toss him a few if I'm making some. I didn't see it on that list, so I think we're safe. Thanks guys!

You know you now have to post video of Tiffany chomping down broccoli and corn kernels, right?

He runs, jumps/attacks the food, and scarfs it down. Then he proceeds to whine for more. He knows the tofu package by sight. It's scary.

Mar eats mac & cheeze, pasta, crescent rolls, doughnuts, chik-un nuggets, soy sour cream, guac...He gets a bit here and there but really enjoys vegan food. Old video of Mar eating pasta! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnXuozmh ... 7p47wsSYjA

My kitties both LOVE and I mean LOVE the homestyle potato rolls with EB. One of my cats likes popcorn and sweets and though I don't give him the sweets, he tries to eat them out of my hand and is quite aggressive about it. I usually have to go to a place where he can't get to eat my sweets by myself (i.e., cookies, muffins, brownies). I tell myself my cats like my cooking because they really seem to.

Somewhere, there's an adorable video of a PPKer's kitteh (ameyfm's?) snarfing an entire asparagus spear.

Phoebe nabbed a large bran muffin a couple weeks ago. I had to deal with the litter box after.

Gozer will eat anything, and as long as it's not one of the above mentioned foods and not messy (sorry cat, you're not putting your paw in my gravy), we will give him tiny amounts. But first we make him sit in his chair like a person.

He's usually incredibly lazy and sleepy all day, so I like to pretend he's getting exercise when he freaks out over a clump of tofu.

I would just be careful to make sure Tiffany is only getting very tiny pieces, as too large a piece may not be chewed properly and cause an obstruction. I have heard of a cat obstructing on broccoli before

Good point! I usually end up breaking it into small pieces anyway, but a good reminder :)
