What's a good veggie bacon? My girlfriend requested some for breakfast, but I've never bought any in my life!
None of them. Make your own with tempeh.
Seriously. I'm not trying to be a smart asparagus here. The Light Life bacon is sold in this horrible pack that is impossible to separate. I've bought it twice, and each time say "never again." it also doesn't taste all that wonderful.
Yves Canadian Bacon is decent, especially on pineapple pizza, but might not be what she wants.
I'd go for some lovely, smokey tempeh bacon. The recipe in Vegan Brunch is my go to, but there are many, and they are all good, easy, quick, and very savory/tasty.
Eta: I haven't tried the tempeh faking' bacon. It's so expensive (5.50 vs 2.59 for regular tempeh), and the tempeh bacon takes less than 15 minutes to make myself, excluding marinating time.

We were afraid of that happening, with Agnes in particular!
But then Agnes was too terrified to leave her carrier so I am holding onto her open carrier next to Santa and then he's holding Olive, and my roommate is next to them. My roommate and I were in festive Christmas outfits, obviously.

Thanks for the suggestion! I grabbed everything needed for the recipe and will give it a go :)
Confession: Never worked with tempeh before (shameful, I know!) so I don't know if it needs to be pressed like tofu or anything. Is there anything I need to do with tempeh before anything else?

Steam it for 10 minutes so it won't taste bitter. (That might be in the recipe directions, I dunno.)
Biker boy just finished lunch with his buddies and texted me, "Wow, that was glutenous!" So, being a smart asparagus I asked him if he'd eaten a lot of wheat. And he texts back, "Yeah, I had a turkey salad thing and a fruit and yogurt parfait with granola." So I told him that sounded suspiciously un-glutenous. (It doesn't really sound all that gluttonous, either.) I am a mean and awful girlfriend.

it would never have occurred to me that he meant "gluttonous." i'd have been confused forever.

For bacon, you don't need to steam the tempeh. The savory, strong marinade, and sautéing cook it nicely; not bitter at all.
It's best if you sauté until its really well done, but it's a perfect introduction to tempeh, and hard to screw up enough that it doesn't come out tasty.

Did you see on Modern Family when Cam made a homemade faux facon that Luke couldn't tell wasn't bacon? I want that recipe

no kidding! but (here's one for the "i'm so vegan" thread) during that entire scene i was like, "no way did that dude make that entirely out of soy; if that recipe existed, pictures of that stuff would be all over the ppk."

First the sectarian riots, now the double earthquake. Everything coming out of Myanmar is making me really really nervous about going in 3 weeks. forking a.

I'm going back to ballet! I start Monday. It's been years, but it was once my hyperbolic reason for living.
I bought a leotard and shoes today! Vegan ones!
I'm really, really excited, even though I'll be so frustrated that my old and not flexible/strong body will intellectually know the moves, but won't always comply. I've finally come to terms with that though.
so I can say without a doubt that it is probably the most uncomfortable thing in the world to be told you are beautiful by someone you barely know and haven't seen in 5 years while ACTIVELY AT A FUNERAL.

I'm out of No5, so I raided my sample drawer to see if I had any left and decided to try Cristalle instead. I think I like it; it's relaxing and not very strong. It smells vaguely lemon-y.
I need to find someone to offload a boatload of nonvegan mascara to. I always uncheck that sample option when I order online, but they always send me one or more anyway, so I have at least a dozen sealed little mini tubes. They should still be good since they are less than a year old (when I finally organized the samples). Maybe I'll take them to work. Also: this seems like failed marketing to me. Why would I pay $35 for mascara Ill need to throw out in two months when I can get quarter size mini tubes for free like clockwork every time I buy anything else?
I wonder if I'll still like Cristalle tomorrow. Origins Ginger is the only scent I've ever liked besides No5. I'm very boring.
Anyone know where to buy a soda bottle fizz keeper? I know this is random, but I need some for a science demo and can't find any except online and I need it Tuesday due to my exceptional planning ahead skills.

I wish I could help, maybe try Bed Bath & Beyond? They always have things like that.
I wish I was asleep :) Sleep is so good. Maybe we need a toddler dance party.

A friend said she was wearing a purple poppy today from a charity for animals wounded/affected by war. I wonder where they're sold as I'd like to donate to them.

Would a weighted champagne stopper work? bc most liquor stores have those.

No. I need to pressurize the bottle for the demo.
