So -last night I decoded I need to make some sock monkeys. I have a friend whose teenage daughter is getting knee surgery - she collects sock monkeys and I want to send her a care package. Also, I have several babies coming into my life soon and I think they could use sock monkeys or other animals.
Of course, I've looked at some patterns online, but I'd love to hear your tips, favorite patterns and see some successes - especially patterns for animals that aren't monkeys.

What sort of crafts are you wanting to do? I have a bunch of crochet patterns.

The great thing about sock monkeys is that you don't need a pattern! Just grab a pair of socks and wing 'er!

i've made a lot of toys! My favorites are knit lobster (not impossible, but not for beginners) http://ravel.me/torque/klknit nautiloids (easier than one might expect) http://ravel.me/torque/n1norberta the dragon- very easy but lots of assembly http://ravel.me/torque/n2i've also made knit jellyfish and parakeets, and lots of sweaters for stuffed animals (which is a whole different ball of wax). I've got several ebook versions of amigurumi critters, and one book of knit amigurumi patterns for sea animals, which I haven't really tried yet but the patterns are gorgeous (octopi, fish, etc, all really detailed and realistic).

I found the image here: http://www.redtedart.com/2011/09/30/sock-monkey-pattern/Annnd here it is! Thanks! I actually have been using my grandmother's old pattern, which is pretty much the same - direct from the Rockford sock company. The best thing about is the amazing non-specificity in a lot of the directions, like " you can add a fez to make your monkey more festive!" Well shiitake, whereamigoing to find a sock monkey sized fez? Where they common in the 50s?
