So we've been reading The Hobbit to the Emperor before bed, because he has reached the age where he wants to hear longer stories etc. It's been really fun so far, in part because he has all these new concepts and ties things in to the real world in funny ways.

Like yesterday we were going out in our rain jackets and he was like mama! We're all wearing hoods! Like the dwarves!!! So then we played dwarves all day, walked through Mirkwood to get to the grocery store, etc.

So he wanted to pick dwarf names for us. He decided to be Thorin (the king) instantly. He decided his brother was Balin. When it came time to pick a name for me, he was like, you're Bombur of course!

Bombur is the fat clumsy dwarf. Thanks guy.

LOVE IT

I was looking in in TRS just now before crawling into bed.

TRS (asleep-ish): We have to look for the wife.

Me: Look for the wife?

TRS: ...

Me: Yeah, we can do that.

TRS (95% asleep): I don't know what I just said, but it's probably relevant.

^^ I may be mistaken, but isn't that what they just found written in that Jesus scroll recently?

Also, I wanted to say on the other page, I am so glad that your son is calling you "Pop". That was what my father and uncle called my grandfather, and nobody I know younger than that generation uses this name any more-- but I love it. What is the mother word in your family, if you don't mind me asking? For them the female of Pop was "Ma" - with a suspiciously sheepy bleat to the A. Or, for us kids trying to imitate, often it was Mop [which my mother cut off right at the root].

Mrs. Face has always been Mama. (I'm usually Papa.) Sometimes she is Mom now, though.

The Magician was doing something the Emperor didn't like yesterday. E leaned down to him and told him very seriously, "you know if you're naughty, mama will give you to the white witch, who will take you away and eat you." Ha ha ha what?

Ada is standing at our window saying f*ck over and over right now. Earlier she was yelling it and pointing to our door. I wonder what she is really trying to say...

My 4 year old nephew was misbehaving last week while my mom was watching him, and my mom said to him, "Keegan, you'd better behave or Nana's going to swat you". His reply, "Hit me with your best shot". Where do they even come up with that stuff?!

apparently when I was a baby I said fork instead of truck. my mom likes to tell me about it because it was highly embarrassing when we'd go anywhere with a parking lot.

Oh and yesterday Silas said "My new bowtie is DAMN! See my new damn? Damn new bowtie is damn!"

Quite a challenge to make it through that whole spiel without laughing.

Ha ha ha ha. On the curse word front, I think I probably mentioned this in this thread like a year and a half ago but... the Emperor STILL says "stick" in such a way that it sounds like he's saying "dick".

And on that note:

The Emperor really likes the Pink Floyd song "Mother." He calls it "the baby song" because it contains the lyrics "oooh baby/you'll always be baby to me." I always feel a little creepy playing it for him but he often requests it so!

His thing lately is that he likes to talk about what feeling a particular song evokes. So he likes to say "this is a happy song" or "this is a sad song" or blah blah blah. I asked him what feeling he got from "Mother" and he was like oh it's definitely a sad song. I asked him what made it sad and he got real quiet and thoughtful for a minute and then said:

"It's sad because they want to break his balls."

The Emperor: what is this song called?
Me: Christmas in Killarney.
E: what's Killarney?
Me: a place in Ireland.
E: oh yeah! Ireland! I want to go there someday. But you know where I REALLY want to go?
Me: ...
E: Burning Man!

I'm not sure if any of you all do the Elf on a Shelf, but my brother does; their elf, "Elvin" will be debuting again this year 12/1. He posted this gem on FB today from his middle child Lydia, "Is Elvin going to kill Santa?"

My four year old niece asking for a Barbie doll for Christmas: "Can if have one of those baby dolls? The one with all the boobies and eyeshadow and tall shoes?"
With a description like that her parents gave a resounding "No!"

Peter was just climbing down off a chair and bumped his elbow. He got an angry look on his face and said "tofurky!"
