I am looking into xmas gifts for Mar. Does anyone use a raised dish to feed their cats? Mar is a pretty big kitty and as he gets older I do not want him to develop any bad muscles due to hunching over his food bowl. I was looking into these:

i dont have cats but both my dogs have raised feeders. i think depending on the size of the animal it helps with digestion and also arthritis and other age related body whoas.

we got the first one for our first dog who is a 60-65 lbs lab mix. labs tend to have problems with hip dysplasia when they age so we thought the raised feeder would be good.
then when we got a second dog even though he is a bit smaller (50ish lbs) we got a matching one so everything would be matchy matchy.

i think it is a good idea and certainly cant hurt.

i think for cats maybe it would depend on their posture while eating. i know NOTHING about cats so sorry if this sounds stupid but do they stand on all fours and eat head hunched over like a dog? in my mind they sit on their haunches and their face ends up not that far from the floor to begin with????

i started putting my cat's dish on top of a small round tin this year, so that it's several inches off the floor. she's old and has developed some arthritis, and i noticed that sometimes when i put the dish on the floor she would look at it for a long time but not eat anything, and then if i went over and held the dish up under her nose she would eat. i think maybe it was uncomfortable for her to stretch her neck that far. i would get her a raised dish if i weren't so lazy, i guess, but this system is working pretty well.

Mar is a big boy - 19 pounds. He kinda leans over his food or crouches over it. While he has no arthritis problems now I would like to help him eat better...

i think the raised feeder would be a good idea.
the only comment i have about the link you have is my dogs would break that in like 2 seconds. ;-)
im thinking a cat would be more gentle plus not as big as my pups.
