Does anyone have any experience taking St. John's Wort? My anxiety/depression has been out of control lately, to the point where I've been considering going on anti-depressants (which I am really against for me personally). I started taking St. John's Wort a few weeks ago and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. I don't seem to have any negative side effects, and I haven't noticed a drastic change in my mood. However, I'm also really bad about remembering to take it regularly. I was wondering if anyone else had taken it and what their experience was with it. Thanks!

Are you taking any other drugs?

If you go on anything, it is suggested to quit the SJW. Otherwise, it is probably fine. Make sure you have a balanced diet. I am no expert at all but in my experience SJW messes with lots of stuff and hasn't been clincally proven to work outside of mild depression.

i don't know much about it, but i do know that if you are on hormonal birth control, it makes the birth control unsafe - so if you're on that, use condoms from now on and consult your doctor on whether you should continue or not, since you can't really rely on the BC anymore..

It also interacts with antiretrovirals, immunosuppresants anda bunch of other medications.

Also, there are safety concerns if there are any of a number of other (mental) health issues at play (including major depression).

Can I ask why you're against anti-depressants?

Yeah---I always just say SJW should not be combined with anything. It's easier.

i tried SJW a million years ago before eventually i got put on anti depressants. all i remember is you had to take a very large amount of huge pills everyday and for me personally it did nothing.

i respect whatever your reasons are for not taking anti-depressants but they can be helpful. if you're completely and utterly against them you way want to try therapy by itself.
anti depressants have helped me over the years. i should probably be in therapy but part of my anxiety problems is basically not being able to pick up the phone and call.
