my guess is a lot of the kosher markets will have these things available (check the place on division st if you're in williamsburg, places throughout midwood, boro park, the israeli grocer on st marks etc)
these things are certainly not good for you but they appear to be vegan (though full of all sorts of chemicals) and the intention is to make a parve product, not a vegan one.
that said, the Supersol on the UWS has vegan butterscotch chips, vegan white chocolate chips, and vegan m&ms (that differ from the chocolate lentils that you can get at economy candy though likely the same producer. these actually come in the same colours as m&ms and are more similarly shaped)
