One of my book club members, who I like a lot (I like them all a lot, in fact), is on the "paleo" diet. There was some discussion of it last night at our meeting and someone suggested "paleo" be our theme for the holiday dinner in December. We didn't settle on that one but my reaction to the discussion surprised me - I am really upset about it. I guess because my food choices are for ethical reasons, and not that I feel I am better than anyone else, but this "paleo" thing is a fad diet and I have no doubt that it will not last for them (or if it does they will definitely cheat on it), while I cannot imagine ever eating flesh again. All of them but me eat meat (some only fish) and I don't have a problem with that but I have a problem elevating meat-eating to a level it doesn't deserve, scientifically, evolutionarily or ethically.

[While my use of quotation marks may seem obnoxious, eating bacon and hot dogs and factory/modern meat and calling it a paleolithic diet is more obnoxious - and it makes me feel a little better in an immature way.]

I'm sick to the teeth of the paleo thing too. I have a friend who is on it and swears by it thinking it is the healthiest thing ever and she feels sooooo good on it. I've dropped it into conversation that it isamazing what cutting out processed food can do. She is spouting off the alleged miracles that come from eating paleo. I feel like saying..... well go vegan if you want real miracles. You not only make yourself healthier and it having scores of peer reviewed research papers into how it affects your health for the better,you also get to save animal lives.

My mother got a new camera and now she's constantly asking, "Can you put these 50 pictures on your computer and then email them all to me? Can you take this video and put it on youtube and then send me the link so I can show my friends?" Why, yes, that is exactly what I want to do with my spare time!

For the first time since joining, I dreamt about a PPKer who I don't actually know IRL. I was taking a class (not sure what the class was, but the latest assignment was to choose a work of art and write a piece about how the life of the artist informed the creation of that work of art), and for some reason, the class and the teacher were all meeting at a tram stop near my home. But I really needed to pee before we got on the tram. Creep was also in the class and also needed to pee, so we went looking for someplace to pee before the tram came. It was difficult, because most of the places we found were really gross, and we didn't want to pee there, and then finally we found a place, and I went into the stall first but I couldn't pee because my bladder got stage fright from the combination of knowing that Creep was waiting right outside and that we were both in a hurry so we wouldn't miss the tram.

Then I woke up and realized I really had to pee.

I'm making sunflower seed bread. My boyfriend will complain he can't use it for sandwiches and buy supermarket bread and my mother (who's visiting) won't be able to eat is because she has a digestion problem. Woo.

I have had a very very very good weekend but I got very little sleep and I also got a cold.
So I am happy but grumpy, and tonight I will leave work as early as possible (if I stop PPKing and get back to the presentation I have to update I will be done sooner) and then spend the evening on the couch drinking tea and going to bed at 9pm. I am very much looking forward to this.

Waiting for the plumber, who is supposed to get here sometime between 12 and 4. I hate having workers here. I just really want to leave them to their business and shut myself up in my room, but what if they have questions? They always have questions! But I don't want to awkwardly hover around them, watching them work, either.

Sleep is the best thing in the world. I have only been having days "off" (wherein I work on other work) once every ten or so days. It is self-inflicted as I am overworking myself in order to deal with some debt, but my days "off" are spent blissfully on the couch, intermittently napping. I'm not getting a handle on my freelance stuff, but my body is screaming at me to sleep, and my cat is snuggly.

I heard him go downstairs and thought "shiitake, I bet he has a question and is looking for me." So I go running down the stairs and nearly kill myself, and nope, he is just heading to his truck to get more tools. So I veered left and pretended I was really just hurrying to the kitchen.

This is weird. I got a new liquid codeine prescription today (without asking and being made to feel like an addict, yay!). Everything on the bottle is identical as before, and it says 120ml, but new bottle is at least 50ml bigger than my usual bottles.

Not that I'm complaining--I resent having to ration it for no reason other than to keep sanctimonious bureaucrats happy, but it seems odd to accidentally get more of a carefully controlled substance.
