Ok so i just got a $20 gift card to Amazon and just realized that the only dessert vegan cookbook i have is vciycj which is awesome but sometimes you just don't want cookies. I noticed that both these books seem to have good reviews on Amazon. But if any of you own one or both of these books which would you recommend?

For myself and my 'tasters' it would have to be 'The 100 Best Vegan Baking Recipes'.
It's laid out simply, the recipes are easy to follow if you have no patience or lean towards ADHD tendencies and the results are Yummy!
Let's see what everyone else thinks.

i owned my sweet vegan, but i gave it away. i didn't make a single thing from it. i'm confident her desserts are delicious, but i just didn't feel strongly that i wanted to make anything from the book. almost all of the ingredient lists called for things i'd have to go out of my way to get. i don't mind a book containing some recipes like that, but there wasn't a single recipe i could make with stuff that just happened to be in my pantry.

I got rid of my copy for the same reason. I have been eying 100 Best Vegan Baking Recipes for a while now. I have heard good things, especially about the Boston Cream Pie!

If you are open for other suggestion, I'd like to recommend The Joy of Vegan Baking - its informative and most of the stuff I'd made from it are delish!

This has the best waffle recipe ever! 100 Best Vegan Baking Recipes has the best banana bread recipe ever and My Sweet Vegan is a really pretty book & has an amazing chocolate mousse cake recipe & the peanut butter chocolate cupcakes are damn good too.

I love the 100 Best Vegan Baking Recipes. I love the red velvet cupcakes and have had nothing but successes with everything I've tried. I really need to quit being lazy and get to work on some of the pastries because they all sound super tasty. And as long as you have access to earth balance I can't think of anything that called for hard to find ingredients.
I like the variety because not only are there desserts there are also some just normal baking recipes, too. But I don't have My Sweet Vegan, so I can't really compare the two. I do have to say, though, that if you can swing getting two, VCTOTW is still my most beloved baking/dessert book.

Everything in My Sweet Vegan looks and sounds great, but I've never made anything as most things are wayyy beyond my 'complicated recipe' threshold. I'm not familiar with 100 Best but it sounds like a better bet.

I own both. I've never made anything from My Sweet Vegan - pictures look nice enough, but nothing that was actually appealing enough for me to get round to it. 100 Best, on the other hand, is virtually stuck together with smears and stickiness as I use it so often (second only, I'd say, to VCTOTW for baking).

Does 100 best use Ener-G?
I agree that my sweet vegan uses too many products. It seems like every recipes has earth balance, tofutti cream cheese, tofutti sour cream, soy yogurt etc... I dont even really consider earth balance a big deal, but there just aren't many recipes in there without any of these things, which is a turn off.

IJDI, she doesn't use Ener-G in her recipes.
100 Best also has a section for kids with Easy Bake Oven recipes. She has the times/temps for putting them in a regular oven too, but I love it for single serving desserts!

I have both books and I like them both. I made a couple of things from My Sweet Vegan and they all came out great. The cakes are awesome, especially the mocha devastation cake and the almond cake. ijustdiedinside wrote: I agree that my sweet vegan uses too many products. I don't have access to earth balance or cream cheese and still was able to make a good deal of recipes from My Sweet Vegan. Many recipes in 100 Best Vegan Baking Recipes call for soy yoghurt as well. And for margarine. She just doesn't call for earth balance.

I have also never made anything from My Sweet Vegan, but haven't found anyone to give it away to. I don't have 100 best so I can't say. The Joy of Vegan Baking is great, so is Sweet Utopia, which no one else seems to own or talk about but I have loved every single thing I've made out of it!

100 Best! I had high expectations for MSV, but I've tried a few things that were just okay and there isn't really anything else I'm jazzed about trying, regardless of how pretty the pictures are.

I have my Sweet Vegan, as others have mentioned it's more of a fancy/pretty baked goods. Everything has lots of WOW factor, but can be either a) labour intensive b) a tad complex and/or c) involve 'rarer' ingredients.
100 best looked really neat (an old roommate had it) the recipes seem more everyday baked goods like the kind your mom would have laying around for weekly cookies etc.

I feel bad for these cookbooks being in a head-to-head rather than two separate threads for each one. So I'm locking this and hoping they get their own threads.
