Here's a thread to post things that were totally hyped up but you ultimately found lacking.
I'll begin with:
1. "On the Road" By Jack Kerouac. Truman Capote had it right when he said "That's not writing; it's typing."
2. "Waking Life." I found this documentary to be unbelievably pretentious. It was like listening to the rantings of a stoned freshman philosophy student at one a.m.

oh where is the like button.
i am afraid to talk about what i've found overrated here but you could probably sum it up in the phrase "every single movie made from a book, video game, comic book, children's TV show or stuffed animal" [note i did not mention disney ride, because a swishy johnny depp works wonders).*
*accepted exceptions are Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas [see note about swishy J. Depp above] and The Crow.
also, daiya? obama? almond milk? the power of Occupy? automatic transmissions? spirulina? casino gambling? the sweet, all-encompassing romance of motherhood?
i feel like (i am?) such a curmudgeon.

Pulp Fiction - meh. I didn't think it was all that great of a movie. I saw this long after it had gone to video, so maybe I missed something by not having the theater experience but I kind of doubt it.

I loved Pulp Fiction, but I thought it started going downhill for Tarantino after that. I liked Jackie Brown more than most people did I think though.

The good bits can be summed up in a 10 minute clip and mostly depend on Samuel L Jackson being a total badass. Jackie Brown, on the other hand, is a masterpiece. Pam Grier kicks butt.

No way. Every time I read the words "kill" and "bill" anywhere near each other, I want to watch Kill Bill again. Oh great, there I go again, and I'm sitting at work, and can't do anything about it. THANKS JONNY

Kill Bill depends a lot on Uma Thurman being a badass. I sense a theme here...

I found Kill Bill, Death Proof, and Inglorious Basterds disappointing. Everyone tells me I should give Basterds another shot though. I've only seen it once and didn't give it my full attention.

Well that reminds me: Brad Pitt. I don't get his appeal. And especially not in ads trying to sell me Chanel No5. I am not one who needs encouragement to buy Chanel No5, but those huge store signs make me want to buy something else instead. Do. Not. Want.

Thelma & Louise maybe, but not now with the way he looks lately (and I mean mostly his styling choices that make him look sleazy, old, tired, and unappealing)
Check out the Chanel No5 ads--very mystifying. He looks oily. Give me Daniel Craig in a tux instead, please.
I also don't think Brad Pitt is that great an actor. He does appear to be a nice guy thouogh.

I love the fact that it set the stage for other books and ideas, though. And don't get me started on that movie with boobyheaded Gary Oldman and ambiguously accented Keanu. No.

"The Dark Knight" and anything with Christian Bale as Batman. I can NOT stand that grating, annoying whisper that passes for Batman's speech. If anyone wanted to torture me Clockwork Orange style, they would have to show me that movie over and over. That also goes for the Joker.
I know, heresy.

I also don't think Brad Pitt is that great an actor. He does appear to be a nice guy thouogh. I don't know. When I was a teenager I had such a man-crush on him in Fight Club. And that came out like almost ten years after Thelma and Louise right? I checked out some of the still images of the Chanel No5 ads. He still seems like a good looking guy. Older though. You're right though. I don't think Brad Pitt is a great actor.

I know, heresy. Totally. Every time I hear that stupid whisper I think I'm watching a parody.

Waking Life was awful. I think those long monologues would have been just fine without all the stupid animation. And the "plot" with the boat guy was useless. Hate that movie.
Ready for this? The Beatles. I've tried so many times to like the Beatles and can't get into it. It seems like rock & roll Disney or some garbage to me. And "I am the Walrus"? Come on if you're going to write nonsense at least make it funny.
Raging Bull. I'm a huge fan of Scorsese and Deniro, but this one bored the crepe out of me. Taxi Driver is way better. Love Taxi Driver.
The Pink Panther movies. OK, I liked a Shot in the Dark but the rest are garbage. The best Peter Sellers movie, however, is The Party. Talk about UNDERrated.

I know, heresy. It's not total heresy. I thought Bale was really bland as the Batman. But I agreed with critical consensus that Heath Ledger was forking amazing as the Joker.

Not gonna lie, I didn't love Brad Pitt for a while and then I saw Interview with the Vampire. I know the movie is a serious angst fest but I think I watched it at just the right time or something. His hair in that movie is something to behold.
I want him to be in better movies :( I want to like him more.
