I went to a really great poetry reading. The poet is a teacher at the high school I went to, and he's one of the first people who offered me any encouragement at all as a writer. I don't think he knows how much that affected me, but he said hi, and it was nice to hear him read.

MOM's (My Organic Market) opened up about 15 minutes from my house and I checked it out for the first time last night. No more driving to DC or VA or odering online for basic vegan essentials anymore. Plus I finally found Daiya Havarti and made trader joes shredded chik'n sammies with sauteed mushrooms and onions topped with Havarti last night...so fricking good!

I haven't seen it in any stores at all. I'm not a daiya fan but I'd so try that. We used to only grocery shop at MOM but we got out of the habit because I'm too lazy and now that Christmas season is upon us, no way am I driving to the closest one near me, its a madhouse in the general area due to all the stores and what not. I could drive to the one further away which isn't a bad idea but then I feel bad about driving 15 miles to go grocery shopping.

The best thing about my day, as it has been every day for approximately the last 2 months, is that I don't have to go to my horrible, stressful nonprofit community mental health center job because I quit! I appreciate this every day! Now, do not think for one second that I didn't want to help - or didn't love helping - the clients who go to the mental health center - I loved working with them! But the organization and management was terrible, unprofessional, rude, and unappreciative for a job with way too much stress and workload and way too little pay. So, even though it has been 2 months, not having to go there is still the best thing about my day!

The peppers do an awesome job of covering up any chemicalish flavor that I've noticed previously in the mozzarella and cheddar (at least they did last night).

My class tonight let out 2 hours early, so I came home and took a little couch nap so I'd have enough energy to do all the cooking for tomorrow. And work wasn't completely horrible! We were actually wandering around looking for customers to help.

My ballet class was SO FUN. I used to live at the dance studio growing up and went pretty far with ballet and almost made it professionally, but I have been avoiding it for years because I knew how much it would hurt my pride and frustrate me to know in my head the way I should move, but my body would not comply. It turns out my coworker feels the exact same, so we bought leotards and shoes and convinced each other to go to a super challenging and yet extremely accepting class. It was so amazing. I can't believe how much I miss ballet. I am so high on endorphins. And I am going to be so sore tomorrow, so file that in tomorrow's worst things.

My localist pregnant vegan friend demanded Thanksgiving [which I haven't celebrated in 6 years; yay expat'ry!] so I'm taking the day off to cycle through the woods and make salad and coffee cake to take to her place where we'll make stew and whatever else she + her little boy want.
I am so excited for this kid to be born in a month or two! Wow. No words.

Pre-Thanksgiving grocery hell is over. I don't have to work until 4pm on Sunday. I WILL GET ALL THE SLEEPS.
But first, Fred and I are going to go have Thanksgiving dinner with the other wine buyer and her husband in a little bit. They have four cats! So much cuuuuuute!

Had my first vegan sushi. I was a little apprehensive since I love fish and that omelet-like thing, but it was great! I got two different kinds of nori roll and three kinds of maki and a nori basket thingy with seaweed. Going back as soon as I can!

It's a worst/best thing. My guy accidentally ate pecans last night at our Thanksgiving get-together and ended up not feeling great at all (he's allergic to them). The upside was that I got to be his personal nurse and spend time with him even if he didn't feel well. He was so appreciative and I was happy to be with him.

Had a very nice Thanksgiving with good friends, good food, good wine and lots of kitty love last night. Then I slept a blissful 12 hours (I did wake up for about an hour at 5am, but I did get some quality reading in during that hour). Today has been spent knitting on the couch and catching up on TV. AND my copies of Artisan Vegan Cheese and Vegan Eats World finally arrived! Yay!

Lazycouchfootball day with biker boy, including lots of T'giving leftovers and a long walk with the dog. So the best thing about my day is pretty much my whole day.

I made two really good home-cooked meals today - breakfast and lunch - AND made two loaves of Super Moist Squash Bread (with apologies to Isa, since I didn't have any pumpkin, I used some turban squash that I'd cooked up). YUM. I love cooking these days.

I know how you feel about a surgery date (seemingly bad thing) being the best news in the whole wide world. I hope this is the solution for you. What will you eat first?
