I can appreciate that the moderators have opinions on threads but are they not supposed to moderate for content, suitability, stop arguments and spam bots and make sure posts are in the right place - not moderate on their personal opinion? Wasn't closing the overrated thread because the moderator was bored of threads like that a little bit 'thought police' - it was just banter that would have died out anyway and wasn't exactly inciting hate! Closing it made a big deal of it. If you follow that logic then threads about anything negative and not all happy should also be closed if the moderator has a different opinion?
Such a shame, I like this board but if you post about something that a moderator has a personal opinion which differs from yours, it makes posting pointless :(

Nobody's being censored here. You're free to shiitake on anything you'd like in other threads.

I'm not a mod, but the PPK is far from censored; far less than any other forum I've lurked on. The point was that having a thread where the whole point is be negative about things other people potentially enjoy is boring and a bring-down. People say negative stuff all the time on here so there is no need to have a whole thread devoted to it.

I personally thought it was all in good fun and appreciated getting to hear about what everyone else thought. We have lots of threads about things we like and it was kinda cool to have one about things that didn't reach expectations.

I didn't think this seemed like a heavily modded board but that showed otherwise and as it was in good humor and not a come down, the closing on a mod's dislike of the topic is very thought police.
It wasn't a hate thread, as gymclass said it was just a thread about things that didn't reach expectations - the world would be a sad old place if we all jumped on the same bandwagons. It was just banter.
And that thread wasn't on the mod's bandwagon so it got closed.
So Dr A - why can we post dislike on other threads but that one got closed? if there are mod rules be nice to hear them.

I didn't make the call, but I support Mo's decision. I have nothing more to do with it than that.

Pia, threads here soooooo rarely get closed. The rules are available, the basic ones (be awesome, no colored fonts, etc)- the mods don't usually go around whacking knuckles, and are soooo not thought policey. Many of us came here from other forums which were REALLY thought policey, and i think we're all trying to avoid that. I think the mods need to balance how people feel and several people did voice their discomfort. I thought it was in good fun but I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable, and hadn't realized that it was making people feel ganged-up-on. Also, the mods tend to remember how these threads end, and it's best to avoid that.
@DrApricot, be careful- it's going to look like a pigeon convention in here if you give me permission to shiitake all over everything!

Pigeons like to shiitake in one place. Go for the sea gulls--they don't care where they shiitake. Unless, they make a game of it, something I sometimes suspect.
I love that old Farside cartoon. Maybe I can find it.

Oh great. Now this thread is going to devolve into the battle between shitters in one spot or random opportunity shitters.
Where is Dr. Suess?

torque wrote: hehe, pigeons are overrated!! seagulls all the way Seagulls are scary forkers! My friends were at a beach in Wales (Barry Island, where they filmed Gavin and Stacy, so I guess they get a lot of tourists eating touristy food). One friend had a big tofu sausage and a seagull swooped down at her trying to grab her sausage several times. She had to run up the beach towards the promenade buildings to try to shake it. I was oblivious to what was going on, as I'd been staring at a shop full of gaudy tat. I had a pie in my hand. When I approached her with the pie she shouted "get away from me. You've got pie. They will want the pie!" and sure enough they were swooping down again, even though they couldn't really get proper swoops going because we were under a covered walkway.

My dad had a box of donuts at the pier in Baltimore, and a sea full swooped in between his hand and nose and stole the donut as he was about to take a bit.
He spent the rest of the morning and his box of donuts trying to recreate it for a photo., but they were too wily.

Where is Dr. Suess? I prefer to just shiitake in my own loo... wait.. I... oh... Now we just need to know which side the bread you butter. Depends on which type of bread, potato bread gets buttered on both sides before going in the frying pan... On that note PSA: when stacking buttered bread put the slices buttered side in, do not, I repeat (louder) DO NOT, stack them all buttered side up. It gets the butter on the back of the bread and is disgusting!

I thought I was pretty clear on why it got closed. It's boring and been done before. In fact, I'm pretty sure there is another thread somewhere on here that is EXACTLY the same thing. Plus, these threads always turn into somebody hating something and somebody saying how much they love the exact same thing.
Also, I really wish people would stop using the phrase "the thought police" when referring to mods. We aren't controlling what you think or how you act or what you want to talk about. Feel free to PM each other all you want about what's overrated in this world. We aren't monitoring your messages or anything. Big Brother has better things to do.
