I just put up curtains in my bedroom. (There were blinds but no curtains, and the window is freakin' drafty!) When I bought the curtains this evening, I also bought a mini Christmas tree. I ate chips and pico de gallo for dinner. Now I'm doing laundry. Yay.

I'm eating olives, drinking tea and talking to my sister online about which steam cleaner we're going to purchase together. Woo.

Spending the weekend with my parents, so I'll probably eat thanks(g/l)iving leftovers, ppk and tumblr my evening away. Unless we go out to listen to some folk music. That's a possibility.

Wow, totally forgot it was Friday! I got confused because I didn't work yesterday or today. Four day weekend, hooray! A little earlier I went to the pet store and bought Tegan her first christmas stocking, so that was exciting I guess.

I've been sick for about a week, so I'm going to go to bed at an absurdly early hour and hope for miraculous healing.

Still working will be for about another ninety minutes (just taking a break now and eating some black bean soup). After I finish work, Imma have a hot bath and relax with TV and a book for the evening.

we were supposed to go see my best friend and her boyfriend to celebrate that he gave her a promise ring for her birthday (not my thing, but she is super excited and I helped pick out the ring so I want to see!) but my partner-man is alternating throwing up and sleeping so I am watching 90s movies, doing face masks, and contemplating dinner...

I hope this doesn't come off as rude/snarky, as it is not intended to, so here we go: can someone please explain promise rings? I don't get it. Isn't it basically an engagement ring? Like, engaged to be engaged, or something like that? I don't get it. I'm eating Vegansgiving leftovers and lesson planning and grading all night until I decide I can stop, and then I'm drinking all the wine and watching "Love Actually." Yesssssssss.

Aww, Love Actually...best.
Yeah, it is basically a promise to get engaged...they've only been together 5 months maybe? So I think they feel like people would judge them for getting engaged...I don't entirely get it, but it makes them happy so I'm happy to help.

Finished writing a paper and doing all the fussy bits (tidying up references, etc). Now I just need my group members to submit their parts and I can stop worrying about that deadline for a couple days...
Now I will move on to finishing some slides for a presentation I'm giving Thursday, so that tomorrow night I can rehearse the presentation over Skype with my group members. That's like, extra wild and crazy, because I'm planning ahead for tomorrow's wildness and craziness as well.

My parents are visiting so we are hanging out at my place and eating pie. I ate too much pie and I feel a little sick...! I'm going to try to go to bed early so I can work in the morning before anyone is up, so we can spend time together in the afternoon. Wild and crazy!

So I think they feel like people would judge them for getting engaged...I don't entirely get it, but it makes them happy so I'm happy to help. I'm all on board with making people happy. I love that! I have a friend who was worried about the fact that they weren't engaged after only a year of dating and I tried to explain to her that it's not very long, but she was panicky. (They're now engaged, have been for a while, own a house together, and I am officiating their wedding in three weeks YAAAAAAAAAY!) I can understand the worry about judgment, but man... if you wanna do it, just do it. Something about promise rings makes me think high school. (Again, no malice intended! If it makes them happy, they should do it! I am just thinking.) Promise rings just seem superfluous. If you're going to get engaged, DO IT. Don't say "I will do this in the future" because that sounds like when someone emails a Craigslist seller to be all "I will buy this thing... in two weeks. So hold onto it!" On second though, phrasing it that way sounds AWFUL. I am only leaving it in the hopes that someone else will laugh about it because it's sort of silly, but totally awful. I really, legitimately am happy when people are happy! I like happiness. I am not putting down their happiness, just thinking about it and turning it over in my mind and trying to figure out why I have a weird reaction to it. Happiness should never give a weird reaction.

oh! I promise it isn't crazypants for me, my schedule is just weird so the only times I can find to work out are weird ones! 24hr gym was the best thing to happen to my level of physical fitness.

how my friday night was supposed to look: hang out with friends, drink wine, attend concert with same friends.
how my friday night actually looked: cancelled concert because i was tired and had stuff to do, napped because i got up at 6am, wrote a few pages for my big paper, then my boyfriend dropped by with tonic so we could drink G&T.

I ran from work to the bus (which took me to the train station), waited at the cold train station for 45 minutes although trains were supposed to leave every 15 minutes, got the train to my mum's house, we were a bit grumpy at each other because we were both very tired and I was feeling like I didn't want to hug her in my possibly-germy work clothes, had a lovely warm shower and washed my hair then got into pyjamas and snuggley dressing gown, was fed food that I didn't have to cook and which involved tofu, cleared all my clothes out of the chest of drawers in my old room and went to bed with a hot water bottle, mug of cocoa and read The Secret Garden.
Unfortunately I stayed up reading 'til midnight (not sure how, as I got up at 6am after not sleeping well) but I got to sleep in on Saturday morning so it wasn't bad.

Add me to the paper-writin' crew--well, paper-procrastinatin' crew. I was working on the outline for my psych paper last night, and then I got an invite to play Wii at my friend's house. My paper is on the affect of video game-play on child development, so, you know, research. I procrastinated for science. (My Wild 'N Crazy Saturday Night has consisted of working on said outline, though. Boo.)

kilgore trout wrote: My paper is on the affect of video game-play on child development Oh man! That sounds really interesting! (No, really it does.) I spent some more time working on my presentation slides in preparation for our run-through tonight at 7:30. (7:30 p.m. Awesome.) In a minute I'm going to make my spouse listen to me rattle them off so I make sure I didn't leave anything out before my group rehearses. Then I might walk to the store and get some fizzy water to wet my whistle before said group thing. OH MY.
