I'm sorry if this topic has been done to death, but it's something I've been thinking a lot about recently since listening to a discussion about it on AR Zone podcast #22:

It's a good talk, but you don't have to listen to it to have an opinion obviously.

From what I understand, dogs can thrive on a vegan diet. But a lot of cats, who are naturally carnivorous, simply can't adjust to veganism. Does it make sense for people concerned about animals to keep cats? Lynne Yates argues on the podcast, relatively convincingly to my mind, that the "sums don't add up." After all, how many factory farmed animals must live tortured lives and be killed to keep this one companion animal alive?

If there is already a thread about this that I could resurrect to think through my thoughts in, I'd be happy to do that.

It doesn't really tackle the topic of, should vegans have cats, though. I struggle with the idea of feeding animals to my animals a lot more than I really discussed in that thread but love isn't really a rational emotion.
