this one gives me a 32DD or F, which is a heck of a lot closer than 34A!

I had to get measured in person, and it still wasn't terribly accurate. For example, I measure as a 34D, but a 34C is more comfortable, unless I'm on my period and my boobs are swollen, then the 34D is accurate... so I guess I'm actually between sizes. I think the only way to really get a perfect fit is to get measured professionally and try on several different bra styles in that size and a couple sizes near it. I was in bra-shopping hell for months after losing a bunch of weight.

One of the huge things to consider that even if you do get measured the fit varies bra to bra depending on breast shape due to the cut of the cup and construction. I went through probably 20 styles at the bra shop before I found one that fit my shape and made things look their best. So even if you take a 32G in one style size might differ even in the same manufacturer (which is annoying honestly).

You just know that the bra was invented by a man, just like tights, thongs, and duvet covers. All pains in the arse.

If your bra is a pain in your arse, I think you're wearing it wrong.

I've finally found a bra that works, so I don't have to try on bras any more! It's the Triumph Doreen, for that not-quite-Mad-Men look.

The two calculators listed on the last two pages give me a 34A and 34D. I'm so very confused. All I know is that the 36B I'm wearing no longer fits.

did you make sure the over and under measurements are tight and the one going over the breasts is loose?

Just chiming in on the unreliable bra calculating. I have used every bra calculator on the first page of a google search this morning & half give me 34A with the other half telling me 32D. Stuckunderhere, the one you recommended gave me 34A, btw. I have some 34A bras that don't feel too good unless I fiddle quite a bit with the straps and hurt when it's period time so I wanted to measure during period time to get bigger bras for that week. It could just be those bras are the problem, I need some new ones.

Getting them measured by a human is a bit more of a challenge for me than I can take right now (big social anxiety) and I can't afford a $70 bra (everyone on here is calling VS bras cheap, but they seem pretty high to me) so I don't know, maybe I'll go to Marshall's and Nordstrom Rack today & see what I can find. I've gained a bunch of weight this year (I needed to) and nothing fits anymore. Heck of a lot easier finding 34A or B than 32C or D.

Okay, after reading a few articles I think I understand where the weird calculations are, and they come from the controversial old "+4" rule of bra measurement. My underbust,or band, is 30 inches and my bust is 34. Under the +4 ruling, that would make my band size 34, and when you subtract 34 from 34 you get zero - A or AA cup. If I were going true band size I would be 30D because each letter is an inch. I don't know where the 32D comes from, since even if I decided to go with a 32 band I would be 32C. I'm going to try on some 32C's and see what happens. I think 30D may be too snug of a band. Bra material is stretchy enough without adding extra inches, and bigger band does nothing for my squishy boobs.

Just to add, there are a lot of bloggers blogging about bras out there. I may have got sucked in a little.

um, ok, this is gonna be a weird question but here goes: any idea what brands of bras they're using on Mad Men? As a busty gal, I'd kinda like a lot more lift and separate so that I can actually wear those shirts with the yoke around the middle and not have that yoke ride up on the gals. y'kno? So, I'm thinking a bra that lifts higher would be better?

You can try a Doreen sort of bra by Triumph.

That one looks awesome! Now to find a local store where I can try one on. Too bad Zappos doesn't carry Triumph, or any of my other brands.

I'm actually really loving my American Apparel bras. Stupid American Apparel...why do you make such good tights and under-garments? I have this one in full coverage and demi. Maybe I already praised AA bras but I'm not going to read through six pages of bra talk.

It is minimal support though, as I am not super busty.

I think that their (awesome) costume designer also makes the undergarments/foundation wear. Not helpful, I'm sorry!

I feel like most bra companies assume if you have small breasts, you must be an adolescent girl with a *tiny* ribcage. All my bras are too tight. It's infuriating. Some of the options posted on here look promising but I'd rather try stuff on in store than order online :T
