OK, I'm not sure if the PPK is dweeby enough for this thread to succeed. And if it isn't, that's fine. I'll respect you all more for it! I just love to dork out on history, so I thought I'd give this a shot. For an explanation of the rules, visit this thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=24201The only difference is that here we'll be posting pictures of historical figures who we'll be identify. I suggest providing text hints with your stills, because this may be tough. I'll start. Malcolm X said that if white people were for Black liberation they had to be willing to do as this American revolutionary did. The man is buried in my hometown (not Boston). And he has an amazing beard, as you can see. Can you guess who it is? If you can, do so and post up your own photo of another mystery historical figure.

One last hint before I head off to work. This dead person was tried for murdering five pro-slavery Southerners, inciting a slave rebellion, and treason. He was hanged.

Prince Alexei of Russia. This man contributed a lot to the surrealist manifesto and was then rejected from the movement for being too surreal:

What do you folks think? Is research allowed? Like I said, I'm a history dork and with your last two posts I've been interested enough to want to Google stuff about your dead people.
I'm fine with whatever you decide.

Well, it's been a while with nobody identifying 8Ball's dead person. So I hope she/he doesn't mind if I reboot this. Would still love to hear who the surrealist was though. This person was a rising star in the Black Panther Party before he was assassinated by the FBI. As Jay-Z mentions in one of his songs, the rapper was born the same day as this person died.

I thought it might be Samuel Pepys, but then google told me I was wrong. Did some more googling and figured it out, so now I'm not going to say, but that's a good but tough one, 8ball!

It's John Wilmot, second Earl of Rochester. Johnny Depp played him in The Libertine in 2004. Here's another one (I'll go easy on ya!): German ex-monk, major figure in the start of Protestantism, signed his own death warrant by more-or-less telling the pope to fork off, married an ex-nun, had six children and died of natural causes.

OK, let's end the (vegan) sausage fest here. This woman was a German Marxist leader. She was murdered during the German revolution of 1919.

Nope, the guy with the fetching black hat was German. A prominent leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement who was assassinated in 1968 shared the first 2/3 of his name with him.
