Aw, poor Giles!
The funny thing is that M usually cries a TON. Maybe all his brother's worrying paid off, I don't know!

Leela signed "more" on the swings today! It was lovely. And when she was done, she signed "up."
And then we had our first case of the toddler floppies. I wanted her to walk to the car, she wanted to run into the lake. And everytime I tried to redirect her she flopped around like a boneless fish resisting my attempts at putting her on the ground to keep walking.

Leela is signing all the time. The problem is I have no idea what sign she is trying to make. Its hilarious and a wee bit frustrating for all involved. Right now she signs toilet all the time for no apparent reason.

Freya is a year and a day old! Hurrah! All three of us have survived!
Our at-home measurements have her at just touching 32" and 32 pounds!
She just yesterday discovered how to stand up on her own from sitting (before was pulling up on stuff and letting go), so that's been her big trick today, and this afternoon she added a little hip shake into the mix while we were listening to Raffi. The girl has moves. She still doesn't really dig crawling, but can/will do occasionally. She butt scoots like nobody's business and especially loves scooting away from us when she's bored and waving bye-bye. Lots of furniture surfing...she can circle the perimeter of the living room...and a few steps here and there, but she seems not too interested so far.
After our concerns about how bilingualism would affect her, she seems to be starting off well. To varying degrees she uses maybe a dozen words now: pappa, hello, cat, dog, quack, baa, ca-ca (helicopter), buh-buh/bye-bye, no, muh/more, yeah, es/yes, ha det (goodbye in Norwegian). She has some word with g and l sounds that she uses for her lovey Jemima too, but we can't quite figure out the connection.
She is mildly obsessed with ducks..in the bath, in music, in books, and of course the ones at the park who don't seem to understand that she just wants to pet them! She thinks that books with flaps are magical, that the Ghostbusters theme song is hilarious and loves to push the merry go round at the park while walking holding onto the seat. She loves traveling on the bus and is in heaven at our local library where she finds books, toys, decorations, a fish tank, steps to climb, beanbags/pillows and a computer that makes jungle noises.
She is.....awesome.

Also, refinnej, I was in a hurry before but I wanted to come back and say congrats to you too! The first year is so hard, and you had some noteworthy challenges in addition to the usual... And you got through it and you and your daughter are both wonderful. That is worth celebrating!
(Also it's freaking me the shiitake out to see all these birthdays go by. I remember watching all your babies being born and feeling like I was still going to be pregnant for an eternity!)
(eta: not literally watching them being born.)

We had so many issues with weight gain... I was so happy when babynut finally out-weighed the big cat! Not a 25 pounder, but in our case it was exciting to surpass 12 lbs. Our barely 5 lb cat must be feeling intimidated.

Happy birthday, Freya! And congratulations to mama. Our developmental specialist said delayed speech for bilingual babies is a myth, but I still wonder about it. Glad to hear she is doing well!

Pie me up buttercup! Our Bradley instructor isn't a doula, but she "accompanies" couples as their birth advocate. Your pie has more qualifications than she does :)

Also, he's not even overweight! That is what he is supposed to weigh! He weighs 5 pounds more than his sister kitty. 25 pounds of cat sounds super cuddly.

I was a roly poly infant who turned into a beanpole kid.
