I'm going to make a real effort to have green smoothies more often, I feel loads better when I start my day with one. What are your favourite ingredients? Today, mine was mango, papaya, baby spinach, water and hemp protein. It was good but I know I can do better.

Our fave is (recipe for 2 people) 4 T hemp seeds, 2 dates pitted, 3 cups baby spinach, 1 cup baby chard, 2 bananas, 1 cup coconut water, and 1/4 t ground cardamom. Ice + Blend! It's simple and delicious :)

I love them, but am having trouble getting them down now that the weather is colder. Anyone have a trick that doesn't involve warm green smoothie? xo kittee

kittee, I drink my smoothie quickly and follow it with a mug of hot tea to warm me back up again. It's the only way I can get smoothies down when it's cold/snowy.
indexandicon, that combo sounds really good. Gonna have to try it.

Do not (seriously DO NOT!!!) put arugula in a smoothie. I learned that the hard way this morning. Holy shiitake, I think that's the nastiest thing I've ever put in my mouth.

I love green smoothies! I got a Vitamix back in March and we've had them every day since -- well, except for maybe four or five days. I really tried to switch things around but now almost always do 2 frozen banans, two apples or one apple and one pear, sometimes an orange, and enough parsley, baby spinach, and kale to fill the blender. I add ice while it's going. I like them very cold.
All of your smoothies are so creative!

I like a simple smoothie of kale or baby spinach, banana, mixed frozen berries or mango with water, and ground flaxseeds.
I'll only use lacinato kale for smoothies though, since I think it's the easiest to pulverize. I also blend the kale first with a small amount of water before adding any other ingredients. Often I'll buy a bunch of lacinato, remove the tough stems, and shred the leaves and put it all in a freezer bag. Then it's easy to pull out a handful frozen and blend it straight away.

I like a couple handfuls of kale or spinach plus some frozen fruit (either mangos, peaches, or a tropical blend) and some fresh fruit (pears, peaches, bananas, mango, apple, pineapple, etc.).
My fav ever involved yellow watermelon, but I doubt there's any of that around right now....

today was "clean out the fridge smoothie" - rejuvelac, almond milk, spoon full of flax seed, a hand full of kale, a couple of carrots, the last of the cranberry relish, an apple, and a frozen banana...

Lately I have been roasting and mashing butternut squash, scooping it with an ice cream scoop, and freezing it. It's great in smoothies with bananas and mild greens (I've been using salad greens or spinach). Tastes like pumpkin pie if you add spices.

Are you all just using regular blenders? I have a Kitchen Ninja Blender and a lot of leftover kale.

I just use a regular, cheapo blender and while it's not perfectly smooth, it's not so bad!

I really need to get more creative with my smoothies. I always make the same one - kale or spinach or mixed baby greens (kale, spinach, chard), a banana, frozen pineapple and strawberries or frozen pineapple and a fresh orange, splash of unsweetened almond milk, water, chia seeds. It's always tasty though, but I should really incorporate more of a variety of veggies and herbs.

My favorite: fresh pineapple, fresh or frozen mango, and kale. No extra liquid needed, and it's delicious. Just pineapple and kale is really good too, if you don't have mango.
I also really like grapes & greens. I used to make really complicated smoothies but I've gotten to where I prefer them much simpler.
