I live in San Diego, and while I love it, cost of living isn't great. Not the worst, but not the best. So I'd say it depends on what your chosen career is likely to pay. Otherwise, I loved Portland.

Seattle is my heart home so I'd stay here. If I had to pick somewhere other than here I'd go with Austin.

Hahahaha I made a thread like this once, probably on the old boards! I think I ultimately decided I'd rather just live on a spaceship. fork this planet.

Oh I would totally live in Boulder too. Maybe that would work for you since there is a vibrant arts community?

Boulder is fairly inexpensive and yeah they have an arts community. It is a neat little town. Denver isn't too far off and Denver is also fairly inexpensive. I personally didn't care for the area too much but I did love the mountains.

I've lived all over the States, as an adult. In general, I prefer the west and medium sized cities. I am very flexible within those constraints. Denver, Albuquerque, Seattle, Portland, Tuscon...they all rock.

I've already lived in some of these places, but some cities that call to me: SF/Bay, Denver/Boulder, Minneapolis, NYC. The south holds some appeal, but it's probably a romantic notion based on nothing. Like, I want to drink cold, sweet, tea on a porch. But that's pretty much it.

Boston's the best, but it is getting more and more expensive to live here. I think the only other place that appeals to me is New Orleans. I've never even visited it yet though, so I better get on that.

I like the parts of the south that are so rural that you pretty much never have to talk to anyone ever.

I do love NM. We were pretty close to making plans to move there but then my husband changed his mind.

Somewhere on the east side of Maui would be my top spot.
After that I do love (probably obviously) Austin TX.
I always think about moving back to the Pacific NW cause it's so beautiful and I love trees but I like sunshine more. I like Santa Cruz a lot too. Or maybe Davis or Berkeley. Chicago and Minneapolis are both great if you like big cities and don't mind cold winters.

New Paltz obvs
but if I had to settle somewhere longer term, I'd probably aim for California somewhere. the main cities seem like dicks, but other smaller coastal areas seemed pretty decent

Did you want to be in a bigger city? It seems like that's what a lot of the suggestions were for but midsize college towns have a lot going on and are mostly friendly. I like the midwest with its 4 seasons - madison, st louis, omaha, minneapolis are some metro places. (Can you tell I'm from a town of 5,000? Cities stress me out)

I know everyone else loves to hate on Sacramento, but I love my city of trees. If I ever decide to leave I would be interested in a place in the redwoods.

Athens GA, Asheville NC, Storrs CT, New Paltz NY. There's magic in all those places.

I'm absolutely obsessed with where I hail from: Juneau, Alaska. (Anchorage and Fairbanks are G-H-E-T-T-O) Beaches, Mountains, Cabins in coves to rent and backpack too, 30,000 people. It is landlocked so it's kind of hard to go in and out of unless you are going to the surrounding villages via the Ferry System. But its gorgeous and wonderful.

I love living in Eugene. I've only been here for a year, and hailing from IL, I am still amazed at the hills and the size of the trees. I love this town. Sometimes I day dream about living somewhere that's warm year round, and I also want to experience Pennsylvania at some point. I don't know why exactly (maybe due to a Mirah song). I just want to.

I was going to post on here about loving Sacramento too, but was too meek. I plan to live in the Bay someday, not because Sacramento isn't awesome, but because the Bay is also awesome. I will always love Northern California, but my friend posts these gorgeous Albuquerque shots and then I get kinda gaga woozy for New Mexico.

I'm from Georgia and I used to want to move back, but since the olympics were in atlanta its too overgrown in basically the entire area of north georgia, so perhaps I want to move to Tennessee instead, somewhere in Appalachia that is rural, instead of where I used to live which was rural and now suburb type area. Also I would live in Chicago if I wanted city living. And the upper peninsula of michigan would be nice.

I love that there's more than one person repping New Paltz, NY- a few of my friends moved from there and are always talking about it with great fondness. I went there for the Stay True Paltz music fest a while ago. it was nice.
