Dear ppk friends, on Sunday I joined myfitnesspal and have been making fabulous lifestyle changes- 40 mins of exercise daily, no wine, lots of fresh fruit and veggies, taking a multi-vitamin every morning. I have been drinking more water for sure, but I feel like I'm peeing so much. Like once an hour. It is clear, but damn inconvenient. Has this ever happened to you?

I guess it depends on how much it is, but that is a normal side effect of weight loss, especially initially.

You're probably also going through a bit of detox, be happy it's coming out your pee instead of your skin. (When I detox it's always break out town USA.) I think diets recommend you drink too much water, so be sure to drink only when you're thirsty if you're replacing other drinks you'd usually turn to with water you're unlikely to get dehydrated. At least, this is what all my macrobiotic gurus say!

I tend to pee out what I drink pretty quickly, so 8 oz of fluid will come out within the hour for me. I think this is normal.

Uh, yeah, is peeing once an hour unusual? Because if so I have been unusual all my life.

Your body stores some of its energy in glycogen, which is held in water. As you are using up your glycogen stores, your body lets the water go as it's not needed any more. As others have said, it's pretty normal when starting a lower-calorie diet.

I'm going to restart myfitnesspalling again tomorrow. I lost over 20lbs using it as a food diary, and I want to get down to 75kg, so here we go again!

I also drink heaps of water and pee a lot. Good job with all of the changes you're making!

I pee all the time. I am also convinced that my bladder is the size of a chipmunk's bladder. And i drink a lot of tea. All pee all the time!

You should make sure that you eat enough salt though, too. Not too much, but a little to make sure you're replacing what you're peeing out. I don't think it sounds like you're peeing an abnormal amount or anything. Generally pee should be a lemonade color (I think). I don't think it's supposed to be clearer than that though.

I thought clear pee was good/ok pee?

It can be "too clear" though if that makes sense.

I think you need to drink an incredible amount of water for this to happen though, and it's rare.

Or sweat a great deal and only hydrate with water. If you're working out hard over longer periods and your skin tastes salty, you need to replace electrolytes as well as fluids.

I can't pinpoint any rhyme or reason to my frequency of peeing. Some days it will be mid-afternoon at work and I'll realize I haven't peed all day even though I'm drinking water and other days I will need to pee every 30 minutes.

if it's clear i wouldnt worry too much about it. your body is probably just getting used to more water from both the water itself and the vegs/fruits and detoxing a bit.

i pee once an hour normally and i drink buttloads of water.
