What art are you embarrassed to like?
A few years ago, when I realized I was a huge sexist crasshole, I began reading all the feminist literature I could find to start educating myself. Since then I've had a really hard time enjoying a lot of the rap music I've long loved. I'm not talking about underground, socially-conscious stuff. I'm talking about stuff like Biggie, Eminem, Tupac, Jay-Z, Nas, etc. I still enjoy the music. But on an intellectual level I'm deeply conflicted about it. Because so much of it so misogynistic, so homophobic, so celebratory of capitalist values, and so playing into the worst racist stereotypes.
What are your guilty pleasures? It doesn't have to be art that's politically problematic. You might just really like Justin Bieber.
I find all of my guilty pleasures mildly endearing. So not guilty either. But I do know what I should be guilty about if I had any shame.
- Jon and Kate Plus 8 - Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley High books - Girls Next Door - Keeping Up With the Kardashians - The Following Movies: Pieces of April, You've Got Mail, Devil Wears Prada, and One Fine Day - Certain youtube channels that I follow that won't mean anything to anyone, but Allthatglitters21 and TheShayTards if we're naming names

I haven't seen Pieces of April for years, but what makes that a guilty pleasure for you? I remember it being pretty good.
And You've Got Mail is one of my mom's favorite movies. I've seen it so many times. I can probably quote half the lines.

- My one guilty pleasure is sort of the same as yours, JonnyWoop. I really love 90s rap, haha. Especially Wu Tang Clan and A Tribe Called Quest. Neither of those acts were the worst offenders for sexist/misogynist content, but it's still there. I don't care though, I love me some rap.
- I don't watch movies or care about Hollywood/film at all, but I love me some Ryan Gosling and Jake Gyllenhaal. I get pretty fangirl when one of them is mentioned.
- Spice Girls! Spice World came on tv a couple months ago and I sang and danced infront of the tv in my pajamas while my husband laughed at me.
- Lady Gaga! I forking love her so much. I think she's great, even though to look at me you might not guess.

I don't really feel shame over these, but I still love boy bands. My favorite of the newbs is One Direction all the way. I also did really like that Justin Bieber song "Boyfriend." Also, my favorite part of the holidays is when I hear anything from NSYNC's Christmas album.

"Fools Rush In" - Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek get knocked up, get married and fall in love (in that order) and culture clash ensues. There's nothing good about it but I sort of love it anyway.

YES! I own this movie. So ridiculous.
Also, every Mandy Moore movie ever.

I love Chasing Liberty. I've never met anybody else who does though.

Glee.
Sixty percent of the episodes I watch leave me foaming at the mouth with incoherent outrage. I don't like their teen relationshit drama, I don't like a lot of their music (with some notable exceptions), I don't like their representations of a lot of groups, and I don't like their complete disregard for continuity, but Jonathan Groff's presence forgives a multitude of sins.
(Chris Colfer and Darren Criss slowly won me over as well - alas.)

Quick, what was the nickname he was ashamed of in Notting Hill?
i'm embarrassed that i've seen that movie multiple times, but i'm not as embarrassed as i'd be if i knew the answer to that question. ask me some stuff about four weddings and a funeral, though, and i will blow your mind.

Shame, shame. :) It was "Floppy." Notting Hill is another one of my mom's go-to movies. I watched it billions of times with her when I was living in my parent's home. I think I've only seen "Four Weddings" once though. Can't really remember it.
