I'm a freelance technical translator; I specialize in forestry, economics and finance, but will happily do anything related to science, fine arts, food or booze.
I've just become a partner in a company that provides language audits and educational consulting for Brazilian companies trying to get "world-ready" for the World Cup and Olympics (or for foreign companies trying to open branches/do business here in Brazil). My background is in education and it's nice to be still concocting educational solutions without having to actually be the teacher slaving in the classroom.

I work part time at a small animal vet hospital, and volunteer twice a week at a mixed animal hospital. I am a full-time student double majoring in biology and religious studies, trying to get into vet school.
I think it's so cool to see what other PPKers do, because we're all so different from each other.

I'm an executive assistant at a management consultant firm. At least until Jan - I'm getting laid off :( I also run an Etsy shop but that by no means pays the bills. I need to decide what direction I want my life to go in the next couple months.

I work in Client Services at a government law library. Lots of legal reference and research, document delivery and inter-library loans. It's way more interesting and satisfying than it sounds.

Last week, someone donated a bunch of green dog biscuits, and after a few days of eating them, the dogs started to poop out bright green poop. That definitely made work more interesting!

I think that is hilarious. Also, I don't know if you love what you do, but it sounds rad. I do when I'm being compensated appropriately. I've worked at some places with below-market prices, and that kind of sucked. It's hard physical work, but I like hanging out with dogs all day.

I'm a buyer/bookseller at a fairly large independent bookstore. I've been doing it way too long, but I suck at change and it's comfortable. I finished my Masters in Archaeology three years ago and then decided to do something completely different and explore animal care work, first doing an internship in wildlife care, and then volunteering at an animal ambulance service. I stopped that because it was doing my head in in a number of ways.
It's looking very very likely that I'll be moving to Belgium within the next few months to be closer to my partner, which will force me to step out of my bookstore comfort zone and thrust me into (hopefully short-lived) unemployment. The hope is that I'll be able to step into something in my field of study and that the last three years away from the field won't have been too detrimental to my career chances. Pursuing a PhD might also be an option.

At the moment I work as a stocker at a grocery store.
But my degree was in journalism and I have written professionally for dozens of publications as both a freelancer and a full-time employee. Over the years I've interviewed Noam Chomsky (socialist intellectual), Lana Del Rey (musician), Russell Banks (novelist), Cindy Sheehan (peace activist), Paul Schrader ("Taxi Driver" screenwriter), Richard Russo (Pulitzer Prize winning novelist), Bernardine Dohrn (Weather Underground leader), and Matt Bondurant (novelist), among many others.
How the mighty have fallen, lol.

I teach science to kids who don't care about their futures because their iPhones are shiny.

I am months away from graduating with a Master's degree in Music Therapy. My internship (and therefore semester) will be over as of Friday. I'll then be able to start looking for a job in my field!
My internship was working with kids aged 5-15 who have mild to moderate learning disabilities (autism spectrum, dyslexia, ADHD) or conditions that make it difficult for them to attend regular school (medical conditions such as seizure disorders, physical disabilities). Love the kids, hate the adults.

I'm a hostess at T. G. I. Friday's, so I definitely work for "the man." (side note: never eat at T. G. I. Friday's if you can avoid it. It is probably one of the most vegan-unfriendly chain restaurants in existence. Even the French fries, and all of the salad dressings, contain some kind of animal product. . . so. . . yeah.)
I eventually want to teach high-school history and/or social studies. I have a bachelor's degree in history and political science, but no teaching license. I'm taking a few years off from school before going back to take the courses I need to get a teaching license.

I don't get all this embarrassment, if it's serious, about working for "the man." That's how capitalism works. A few at the top, everyone else works for them. If one weren't working for "the man" one would have to be pretty privileged.
ETA: I hope that didn't sound cranky!

I'm a printmaker (studying in undergrad, selling werk in galleries). for money, I work several low-wage jobs: print shop tech (professional problem solver! with a concentration in cleaning up other people's messes!), video editor, telephone answerer, and fabric store babysitter.
I hope to be a grad student soon.

I don't think anyone sounds embarrassed about working for "the man"
But there are actually many jobs that aren't - and those individuals aren't necessarily privileged. In fact, they're probably underpaid and get no benefits.

Yeah, well, see, county policy is we should integrate phone use into the classrooms, like poll websites, Internet use, etc. School policy is wishy washy. We can enforce no phones in the classroom, but there are no consequences, so kids do what they want. This kills my classroom management since that s already my weakest teaching skill.

When I was in high school, state policy was no cell phones for students (or teachers, for that matter) and if teachers saw you with one, whether you were using it or not, they could confiscate it. Of course kids had them with them anyway, but still. I only graduated five years ago, I don't know if the policy has changed.

I'm not embarrased to work for The Man, it was just part of the OP's question. It is what it is.
