Ulysses. I read it along with a companion guide which helped a lot.

There is a debate to whether or not it is actually non-fiction (first published as such, but re-released as fiction), but Mutant Message Down Under really made me look at life in a new way. I was young when I read it and I remember it having a big impact on how I viewed and reacted to certain situations in my life.

I was going to say that one! It was my first feminist book and it completely changed the way I think about gender and sex, and allowed me to make peace with myself.

Language, Truth and Logic by Alfred J. Ayer. I was already a long time atheist when I red the book, but it convinced me that the question "Does god exist?" is meaningless.

I read The Autobiography of Malcolm X when I was 18 or 19, and it definitely had a huge impact on me. And John Robbins's Food Revolution helped me go vegan.

Ha, yeah I wrote that prior to picking the picture. The camel book was the next book I owned. Also great but I dog eared Learning Perl because of its simplicity.

I had that C book! Except I mostly didn't use it, thus leading to my sharply abbreviated college career.

Ha! I stole that book from a guy I dated for a while. He asked for it back, he never got it back. It was one of the first books I read ('read') in my effort to decide if I really wanted to major in Comp Sci.

Unix Network programming came from one of my favorite classes in college.

And Learning Perl was the book I was handed on my first day on my job for the company that I still work for. I was told to learn Perl because I needed to do some stuff. And do some stuff I did.

The United States Constitution. Without it, I wouldn't believe in a limited government based upon the teachings of Jesus Christ, or that African-Americans count as three-fifths of a person.

How many of us attempted to read the dictionary from cover to cover? (I did)

How many succeeded? (I didn't)

The story kind of lacks substance

We have three sitting on our shelf. My husband says he needs as many copies as he finds at the thrift store in case one gets damaged.

I agree with the Cosmos comment earlier, my grandfather left me the VHS tapes after he passed and it changed my worldview quite a bit. And I find it comforting now. (our baby's marker actually has a modified version of a quote from Cosmos)

http://www.amazon.com/Pretending-Be-Normal-Aspergers-Syndrome/dp/1853027499 Pretending to Be Normal by Liane Holliday Willey had a huge impact on me as a teenager. It was like "WOW there are other females like me! And successful ones!". (she talked about being a professor and more in the book) Even though it's aimed at adults, I found it comforting.

Other than that there was no particular books that stuck out, it was more of a collective of many viewpoints from many memoirs and nonfiction.

It's not RCN, is it?

RCN may have finally stopped running perl I wrote back when I was working for UltraNet, before the buyout.

There is, of course, only 1 tech company in the DC area, so I suspect I have guessed correctly. 8)

YES and yes. I remember being completely fascinated by them. They also helped me get over my fear of becoming pregnant without knowing it while standing in a crowd.

Eating Animals was the last push I needed before becoming vegan.

Also "Lucy: The Beginnings of Humankind" because without that book I wouldn't be where I am today.
