The winners have been posted: http://vegnews.com/articles/page.do?pageId=5212&catId=7Isa won, yay! And then, as always, i'm pretty sure this shiitake is rigged or people don't know what they're voting for. PCRM and PeTA? Bare Escentuals is THE best place to get vegan makeup? Ellen is the best vegan celebrity, which I realize these votes were long since counted but it's still funny. And who, ever, would say Tofutti is their favorite vegan cheese?!

Hey the PPK won silver! So cool!
The Ellen thing makes me a bit sad.

They are so boring. The same places all win every year. Are Candle 79 & Millennium really the best vegan restaurant forever and ever?
I remember in my hometown there were so many many wonderful sandwich places that we loved, local places that were open for years and years and then Subway would win the best sandwich category. It doesn't make any sense! It makes me so annoyed!
They should have a critics choice too, they kind of did that by spotlighting some places but they were more random.

I figure it will always just be the most prevalent products will win, not necessarily the best.

There isn't even a best panda category! This was stacked against me. I demand a recount.

Yay for Cinnamon Snail!
But how does Babycakes win Best Vegan Bakery (store front) every year? I cannot believe that anyone who has tasted their cupcakes versus any other could vote for them. Seriously, a 12 year old with VCTOW makes better ones for our bake sale every year.

It's just the most mainstream crepe every year since that's what's accessible to most of the country, including the folks in the middle of nowhere. They should give people in big cities 3 votes, so it's like a reverse electoral college.
I had never heard of EarthSave, which won bronze for favorite vegetarian non-profit...had anyone actually heard of them prior to the Veggie Awards?

Yep, but only because I did a high school report on them (we had to pick an environmental charity and I was a new vegetarian so I picked EarthSave, because it was the only one that promoted vegetarianism (it was founded by John Robbins, who wrote Diet for a New America)). I haven't heard a thing about it since I did the report, and didn't know it was still around. I just checked out their website and they seem to be more about providing healthy "plant-based" meals and nutrition advice now, rather than focusing on the environment.

yeah, people vote for what they know/recognize. not everyone has experienced everything, so there's no comparison. it's kinda silly, actually.

A lot of people go to vote for one or two things and don't know what the rest is so they pick a familiar name. Upton's wasn't actually even on the ballot, but you could write them in (which I hella did).
