Currently, I'm a full-time baby wrangler (to my own baby), but I hope to go back to school in a few years and do...something. I'm accepting ideas.
Previously, I spent five years working for Whole Foods after graduating with a useless degree in religious studies -- I was a bakery supervisor at the flagship store for the company. It's definitely working for the man, but of all the corporations out there I feel like Whole Foods is a great one to work for, and super vegan-friendly. My husband still works for the company and I'm especially grateful for the benefits.

I am in regulatory compliance and quality control at a mortgage company. I accidentally ended up in this industry and most of the time I wish I hadn't. It's stressful and unfulfilling. I really just want to bake cookies or something.

I am a yoga teacher. I've been doing it for about 12 years now, and I love it so much. It is such a joyful and rewarding endeavor. I feel lucky everyday!

I am a cook. Been doing it for way to long. Chose the profession when I had no idea who the hell I was. Now almost 20 years later I know a bit more about myself and am so burned out it is sad. There are times when I love my job but they are rare. Now that I have gone vegan it is even harder at work.
My favorite thing about my heath insurance is that I cannot afford to use it. So yep.
Also, I love librarians. They get whatever they want in my dinning room.

Artist! So excited to be making cool things full time.
Several days a week I am the manager of the paint department at a small props shop that custom makes props for theater companies, corporate events, etc., and I'm just starting to do some design work there as well. Another 1-2 days a week I assist an artist with prepping materials for and installing handmade wall coverings made out of natural materials, mostly fabric and sometimes clay and lime plasters. I also just did a freelance gig that went well and I hope to start doing more of them! I've been working waaaay more hours the past few months doing all these different things than I'm used to doing (for pay), but I'm super excited about all of my work soooo it's pretty great.

ZoeTate wrote: I'm also in school, but in sociology/women's studies, not finance, so it's interesting but ultimately pointless in terms of career. I have a BA in Sociology with a Minor in Women's studies! The WS didn't help me much, but if you go into marketing or PR, they love the Sociology degree. I also have a degree in Liberal Studies. I am a marketing specialist for a giant software company. Very much the man. Hate large companies. They don't care about you, you get lost in the crowd, and somehow I still have shitty health insurance. BUT. I have a job interview today for a position in marketing at a child develpment center. It sounds really cool. The center/schools are private, and they specialize in teaching children via the arts: music, art, theater etc. I am very excited. Smaller company and also about 25% more than I am getting paid now. I originally wanted to be a teacher, hence the degree in Liberal Studies, but the politics of it all turned me completly off. I also have another interview tomorrow for an event manager job at a software company. That could be fun too. But I have to feel the company out first. I don't want to work for another huge, cold corporation. Also gotta be careful with event positions, because they have a tendancy to overwork you. And lie about how much you travel. They say 20% travel...but a lot of times that means 40%+ travel, and that is just too much. Either way, sticking with marketing. I like it. It allows me to be creative, even though I am not an artist or musician. I love the whole 'behind the scenes' aspect of marketing and event planning. I love hearing about what you all do. I am not surprised to see how many people are in careers that help others, but the range is pretty amazing.

Edited..trying to agree with Chicki here, but didn't get the whole quote. Anyhow, I thought the same thing.

I work for a small company--about 15 employees--that makes retail products for a variety of customers from small independent shops to custom work for major museums like MoMA and the Met. We make posters, magnets, greeting cards, matted prints and mugs, among other things. I'm the Production Coordinator/Printer. My day mostly involves printing posters and magnet sheets, distributing work, packing shipments, product assembly, and juggling all of the orders to make sure everything gets out when it's supposed to.

I'm a 2nd year medical student right now and as of next Friday, I'll be 37.5% of an MD, haha. I guess depending on where I end up, I'll either be working for the man or be the man. I'm thinking I want to go into emergency medicine, but I could change my mind. Interventional cardiology really interests me as well, but that's a really long/competitive/high-stress road that I'm not sure I want to deal with. It'd be nice to have a family and free time to spend with them! I have an undergrad degree in international relations, which I'll probably never use (and knew as much while I was getting it). It seems like more or less the patient care aspect of medicine is really rewarding, but the drudgery of the book work right now is killing me (and all of my classmates!). Next year should be much better, but also more stressful, since it'll be more clinic focused.
In fact, I should get back to studying now. Bah.

I'm a full-time college student who needs part-time work. In 2014 I hope to be in grad school for public health.
