It was my first of his and David's, I enjoyed it but didn't love it as much as other readers. Hoping to read some more of Green's books over the summer.

Now reading The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater - liking it a lot

I thought Gone Girl was fantastic.

Seconded! Also Before I Go To Sleep by SJ Watson. I have also been enjoying Jo Nesbo's Norwegian Harry Hole series.

Right now I am reading Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson.

I love KSR. Forty Signs of Rain might still be my favorite.

I have only read 2312 and I'm super excited to dive into his other stuff. Alastair Reynolds is my favorite sci fi author and I've had trouble finding anyone else I like as well.

Have you read Jack McDevitt? I adore him (I'm not even into science fiction). He has stand alones, but I prefer the series books.

Talent for War begins one series; Engines of the Gods the other (my favorite)

KSR does a lot of alternate history stuff. Forty Signs is the start of a global warming trilogy.

I finished Atrocitology and then read The Story of English (surprisingly short for the history of the English language). I haven't started anything new yet, but I think I'll read Tokyo Vice next since it's been on my reading list for over a year.

Lee Child books. Started with the Killing Floor, and now onto Die Trying.

Good stuff, but, he sure knows how to rack up a body count. I lost track in Killing Floor.

I'm about half way through A Tree Grows In Brooklyn.

I thought Room was terrific. It was so interesting to see the different perspective about the confinement from the child's point of view, and I loved that the mom gave him such a full life while they were trapped.

I just finished A Visit from the Goon Squad and I really enjoyed it. Every chapter focuses on the story of a different character with a different story but they all interrelate. Usually I'm not a fan of short stories but these all built up to an end I thought.

I'm around page 150 of Time Traveler's Wife and I'm not feeling it. Should I go on? I know this is a popular book and everyone loves it but I feel like an anomaly. Does it get better? I don't even know if it's a question of getting better though because I'm not feeling the emotional depth and don't care about these characters...

I think you should quit if you don't like it by now! Life is too short and the characters don't grow or change very much

^thanks! It's a long book and I REALLY wanted to like it so I was in the best possible frame of mind to be receptive to it. I love modern stories with speculative fictiony touches (Like, I liked Never Let Me Go and thought the narrative viewpoint was the key to that book although the prose style a bit plain for my taste--but the narrative perspective was its trump card and it was well written and engaging and I was feelin' it somewhat--you know, I get its popularity) but yeah, this Time Traveler's book I'm just not getting into. I think I might read it a bit more tonight and then skip to .

I thought Never Let Me Go was brilliant too. The movie adaptation was surprisingly good too!

I found the Time Traveler's Wife quite hard going especially in some parts BUT I'm glad I finished it. I would say I did end up enjoying it over all. It is SO much better than the film!

I loved Never let me go too.

Just finishing Cloud Atlas, so far I both love and am confused by this book. The layout of the chapters and the writing is fantastic but the connections between each story seem to be lacking for me, it just feels like there should be more, although I still haven’t finished it, so who knows. Going to start The Stranger's Child next.

Alfred Bester: The Demolished Man.
Really awesome and creative for that sort of plot ("The police uses telepaths - how can I commit a murder?"), and also featuring one of the greatest locations I've ever come across in fiction.

I raved about The Stranger's Child upthread - I loved it. I'm reading The Mitford Girls by Mary S Lovell at the moment, which I'm enjoying because it goes into quite a lot of detail about the lives of their parents, which I was unaware of before.

I've been reading a few books lately.

Pines - the writing style was pretty good and I really think it could've been a great book but it builds up (with quite a bit of unbelievability), then drops you off at the end with a half assed explanation (again, with quite a bit of unbelievability). It was like "what the hell just happened? Did he really just end the book? What about this? what about that? Am I really supposed to believe that?"

Apocalypse Z - Zombie book, I'm not into zombies and the book is written in a 'diary' format which I'm not a big fan of but it is a pretty good book.

Is anyone reading the new Alice Munro, Dear Life? I bought it for my mum for Christmas and I am soooo tempted to crack it open.

Just tore through The Solitude of Prime Numbers. I loved it.

I'm starting The Diviners by Libba Bray today! I'm on a loooong YA kick.

So. GOOD. And horrifying, and exciting, and aaah! Just an all around well-written story. Very well done.

Oh I just picked this up from the library and plan to start very soon. Looking forward to this one.
