If you go through amazon I generally type in "Vegan Cookbook" and on the side you can see "what's coming" (or "next 90 days" or something to indicate a long length of time) :)

Other than Isa's book (which will be really, really good), none of the cookbooks mentioned here interest me.

Of the ones listed on Amazon I'm most looking forward to Pies and Tarts with Heart. I'm really intrigued by the idea of savory pie recipes. ack, i need more details about isa's new book!

What I really wish is that she'd write a sequel to Quick Fix Vegan.

More good, quick vegan recipes. I'm slow in the kitchen so I can never have enough of those.

Stuff like this makes veganism more accessible to people, which can only be good. Who cares if something is gimmicky--less meat consumption is less meat consumption. Plus, once people learn they won't turn into a rabbit or waste away from lack of protein, they will probably be more generally open to being veg.

It's another book that promises weight loss on a vegan diet. It's either way more restrictive than vegan diet itself (no added oils, raw food, no processed foods etc.) or not-working (at least not for everyone). Successful weight-loss diets either reduce calories or reduce choice of foods (latter harder to stick to).
Also, the author is not vegan, and I find vegan recipes by meat-eaters sad, uninventive, as if vegans are supposed to be happy with whatever butter-laden dish is veganized using a ton of margarine.

I think Mark Bittman generally has really good vegan recipes and the way he writes makes cooking more accessible to people who are less comfortable in the kitchen. He is good at explaining things and teaching one how to cook so I think this book coming from him is great. And while a vegan diet might not help everyone lose weight, it is healthier on the whole, especially when one cooks using whole foods which is what this cookbook is promoting. And yes to what lavawitch said - less meat consumption is less meat consumption.

Yeah. I think it is a silly marketing thing, but I'd be interested in checking it out because I do like his ideas and recipes. The weight loss gimmick is dumb, but I think it'll be more intellectual than something like Skinny bisque, you know? Or I would hope so anyway.

I hated Skinny bisque's tone, but I guess there's a target audience for that. I hope Bittman's recipes are tasty enough to keep readers on a vegan diet.

If you're going to do the vegan before dinner thing, why not just use a regular vegan cookbook? I don't get why specific 'vegan before 6' recipes are necessary. But people will buy it for sure, so I can't really judge the guy too harshly.

I would guess it focuses on breakfast and lunch and not dinner.

Hasn't Bittman been doing this part time vegan thing himself for a while? I'm sure he can come up with tasty recipes.
Anyway, this book isnt designed for us--it's meant for all those people who sneer at us and ask what the hell we eat but who will also rush out and try fad diet books. Or for people who know being veg is healthier but do t know where to start. They might even have some of his other books, making this even more accessible. We all know that picking up AFR is easy peasy, but for whatever reason, it still intimidates a lot of people.
I think a vegan for weight loss diet that doesn't cut out all animal products is probably more likely to reel people in and be sustainable over the longer term.

Neat! I'd never heard of that one. I think I'll try ordering it. I'm actually going to get a cheapo used copy of the Man a Can book too because it actually looks more vegan-friendly/veganizable than you'd expect.

I can't believe it's taken me so long to really grasp the joy of pre-ordering books, suddenly one day something just turns up like a ray of sunshine in a mail envelope!
I have pre-ordered the following, the first three because they all expand my culinary knowledge and repertoire a bit further. Until very recently in my narrow little world the only nut butter was peanut butter, there may have been a little light bulb moment when I realised there were in fact others. :) And as for the Desserts, I don't need desserts, sometimes reading about them is a good fix.
Nut Butter Universe by Robin Robinson Mango & Mint: Arabian, Indian, and North African Inspired Vegan Cuisine by Nicky Garratt Grills gone Vegan by Tamasin Noyes Chloe's Vegan Desserts by Chloe Coscarelli
And on the short-list, which keeps getting longer, those books I'm seriously considering pre-ordering. I'm a bit of a baking tragic and I am obsessed with pizza.
Whole Grain Vegan Baking by Tamasin Noyes and Celine Steen Pies and Tarts with Heart: Expert Pie-Building Techniques for 60+ Sweet and Savory Vegan Pies by Dynise Balcavage Ms Cupcake: The Naughtiest Vegan Cakes in Town By Mellissa Morgan Vegan Pizza by Julie Hasson
And a couple of titles, I'm still debating about.
The Vegan Baker By Dunja Gulin - I would have liked more info in the blurb. Gluten-Free and Vegan Pie: Sweet & Savory Pies to Make at Home By Jennifer Katzinger - I'm not GF and I admit I'm a little apprehensive about dipping my toe into GF baking, a lot of new to me flours to work with. Kitchen Divided: Vegan Dishes for Semi-Vegan Households By Ellen Jaffe Jones - As the only vegan in the family I like this idea, I'm not holding my breath that anything will change my family from mocking frozen fish eaters to at least trying the stuff I make. Unless were talking baked goods, nobody says no to baked goods even if they are vegan.
