Goddamn Obama!!

I think it's always been $6 a pint here, unless it's on sale. I decided to get an ice cream maker last month. Eff the system!
(Bonus: if you make your own ice cream, you can make vegan mint choco-chip that's actually green.)

It must be Monday. I missed my bus by moments, the next bus was late, and now we got sideswiped by a utility truck that took off the driver's side mirror and are stopped while they exchange information and we wait for a replacement bus. Ugh.

No fooling her with the meds. Is a thick pink refrigerated liquid.

$6/pint coconut ice cream has always been normal here. I'm dying to try the $9 cashew based pistachio ice cream, but haven't been decadent enough yet.

I feel kind of bad for how much I'm chomping, but I'm having carrot sticks, pita chips, and hummus for lunch. It's awesome, but loud.

Haha, yeah, that was something. Some white folks will go to SUCH LENGTHS to defend anything or anyone from even the slightest accusation of racism, even when it has nothing to do with them.

I mean I just don't even understand the points they're trying to make? (well some I do, but one in particular seemed...weird and confusing)

Also, it's monday, so it was strength training this morning, which involved a lot of rolling around in a muddy field. woohoo.

Bleh. I took my other cat in this morning to be hospitalized since the vet thinks she has fatty liver disease. When I brought her in on Saturday morning, the vet noticed that she was jaundiced and they did some blood work and her liver enzymes were high. The vet was being really pessimistic and acting like there was basically no way that she was going to live through this without becoming the six million dollar cat, but I read things online (anecdotal, I know) where peoples' cats had much higher liver enzyme levels than Callie and that they put in a feeding tube and just made sure to be diligent with the feedings and that their cat was fine in the end. She didn't seem to be acting that bad off aside from losing weight and horking up bile, so I hate that the vet makes it seem like she's already a goner. She kept saying that the only other cat she saw survive this ended up spending 2 months at their vet hospital and racked up a huge bill and that 10 years later, she's fine, but that she was very lucky and that it was a huge pain for the owners because they had to learn to put food in through a feeding tube and "OH MY GOD SO MUCH TROUBLE NOT WORTH IT" was basically her tone. Maybe I should get a new vet? I dunno.

Is it maybe just that most people aren't willing to put food in a syringe and put it in a feeding tube? I mean, I really don't see that it's an unthinkable task, especially not for someone like me who has a lot of flexibility in their schedule right now. I made it clear to the vet tech this morning that whatever I can do I'd be willing to learn... Sub-q fluids? Teach me! Feeding tube? No problem! I'm a med student. I'm pretty okay with this stuff mentally, so I just need to be shown the correct way to do it on a cat and then I'm good. I know it's possible that my cat is a goner and that all of these efforts would ultimately be wasted, but I'd like a little more hope! Even if she only has a 20% shot...

Your vet sounds awful. I think you should find a new one. Feeding tubes are not a huge deal, sub-q fluids are not a big deal.

ETA: I should add that I'm really sorry about what you're going through! I just got too mad at your vet and forgot that part.

I think if you are uncomfortable with anything your vet says, you should always go for a second opinion. A lot of people probably aren't willing or able to do a feeding tube at home, so that's probably where your vet is coming from. But if you are committed to doing it, your vet should work with you, and if she won't, it's totally okay to try another vet. I hope your kitty is okay!

Are UK wine glasses smaller than American wine glasses? A normal-sized bottle here is like 4 glasses, right?

I'm pretty tipsy after two, and I'm an average sized lady.

In the pub, the standard measures for glasses of wine are either small/175ml (= just over 4 to a bottle) or large/250ml (= 3 to a bottle). We drink a lot here.

I have done nothing today! Nothing! I am not currently working. Today I have:
Drank coffee & ate an english muffin
Put the bath mat in the washer.
Ate fried rice.
Put the bath mat in the dryer.
Drank "eggnog."
Read a large percentage of the internet.
That's it. It's not good. But it was raining. And. I had no motivation. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow.

I'm trying to work on my resume now, so I can feel like I accomplished something, but ugh, it's hard to get motivated! even though i really need a job/money.

Back of the radiator. The answer is always down the back of the radiator. If I've learnt anything from the PPK, this is it. Fee will back me up on this.

True story. I don't even have a radiator, but every thing I've ever lost has been behind it.

I have done nothing today either, and it has been glorious. This is my first two day weekend in AGES and I have reserved today for nothing but cat snuggles, a bath, naps, and later meeting friends at a vegan-friendly pub. Tomorrow I will be a little bit more productive and do some writing, but today is just for being lazy. I have to go get insurance on my car though, which pains me because it is such a boring and annoying thing to do on relaxation day, but it could be much worse.

So glad there's others out there doing nothing today. I feel better. I keep thinking about getting started writing out Christmas cards. But then I don't.

I lied at work today, and it's making me feel icky and annoyed. It was a white lie. Someone said, "Oh, I love her, she's great," and I just said, "Yeah!" But what I really thought was, she asks idiotic questions, and I don't think she has any idea of what she's doing.

So glad my work switched from a fancy sit down Holiday meal (at a place with very Christmasy decorations) to a more informal thing at work catered by Whole Foods and with homemade decorations. I'm probably the only one who appreciates the change. But Field Roast, roasted carrots and parsnips, potatoes, and pumpkin pie are so much better than the steamed vegetables I got at the fancy place.

That sounds so much better, mollyjade! I'm tempted to order Christmas dinner from WF.

I RSVP'd to my work holiday party today: "I regret that I will be unable to attend. Unfortunately this conflicts with another event on my calendar that evening." I did not mention that the other event is "eating an enjoyable dinner."

I feel sad when I hear about vets taking this attitude towards a patient.

I'm not referring to you in any way in the next bit Freetahtah. It's very sad when the carer of the animal doesn't want to take necessary action to keep them comfortable and has the vet perform euthenization instead. My vet once told me about a family who decided to have their guinea pig boar put to sleep as they didn't want to clear his fecal impactions from his perineal sac. It's really not a big job, you don't get poop on your hands or anything, just pick him up a couple of times a day to check he's all clear down below and help him out if he's struggling, even if you have to pull on a rubber glove to give him a bum bath. The piggies are a huge part of my family, I just couldn't let them go over something manageable or treatable.
