Not sure if this is old news here, but this was shared with me today and I thought it was pretty awesome. Using iPods and music from a person's past to help Alzheimer patients come back to life.

I used to volunteer at a nursing home for people with Alzheimer's and dementia, and we were always trying to find some activity that would engage all of the patients, even the most unreachable ones.
One day I brought in one of my husband's karaoke Dvds, rather cheesy stuff showing pretty locations in Europe with of course music and words. When "My Girl " by the Temptations came up, everybody was singing. The nurses pointed out to me this lady that was singing along with everyone else. Later they told me that her Alzheimer's was very advanced and this was the first time in months she had actually reacted to something.
love this video! Angelina, that is a great story! wow! When I interned at a nursing home they would have concerts sometimes and the residents were so into it. It was great!

My first occupational therapy placement was in long-term care and I worked with some ladies who couldn't tell you family members' names, but could play songs on the piano without sheet music and sing along to hundreds of others. Also, I love this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qf0k8sACrTU
