Hey y'all. I did a thread search but the other threads were about plain yogurt.

I have never liked yogurt pre-vegan, but I know it's good for you and can be a filling breakfast so I want to like it.

If you were trying to make someone like yogurt, what would you recommend? What is your favorite? I'm guessing I would like chocolate or fruity. But I'm also trying to keep it low cal and low sugar, so that might be impossible.

Thanks!!

What do you usually have for breakfast?

I never used to like yoghurt on its own as a kid, but what got me into it was mixing it with something crunchy such as muesli, which I think goes really well. Favourite flavours would be cherry, followed by blueberry or forest fruits.

If you're going for low cal you could get some plain yoghurt and swirl some toasted oats, dried fruits of choice and some sugar-free fruit spread in to it?

I know everyone's crazy about the coconut milk yogurt, but I actually like soy best. I buy either Silk or Wholesoy in the big tubs and doctor it up with whatever fruit I've got on hand, plus granola or another cereal if I've got it.

I'd suggest a smoothie with fruit and a little yogurt added in with soy milk. That way you can get used to the taste but it'll be very subtle.

I never liked dairy yogurt but I love Wholesoy in blueberry and strawberry.

The coconut milk yogurt is sufficiently different from dairy yogurt. The texture is completely different, and that works for me, because I was never into the texture of dairy yogurt. I can't get down with the texture of many soy yogurts, perhaps because they are too close. The almond milk yogurt is also different enough that I like it.

The flavored soy yogurts are basically dessert. I think those little Whole Soy cups have something like 20 grams of sugar.

I second the idea of adding it to a smoothie if you're not sure about it at first. Whole Soy unsweetened is my favorite, and it's actually pretty low in calories (especially compared to the flavored ones). If I'm eating it straight, I'll usually add vanilla extract and a couple drops of stevia.

It's new and kind of pricey, but So Delicious is making a Greek style almond milk yogurt that I just recently discovered. It is the best tasting non-dairy yogurt I've tried. It is really creamy and has 6g of protein. I also enjoy coconut milk yogurt and Wholesoy & Co. Soy yogurt.

Unless you're going to eat unsweetened soy yogurt, I don't think vegan yogurts have much going for them nutritionally. Coconut or almond milk yogurts won't have much protein, and all of them have a fair amount of sugar. I don't see the point in making yourself like them--soy milk on your cereal is probably almost as good as the soy yogurt as far as filling-ness goes.

I think the health benefits of yogurt, both dairy and vegan, is supposed to be in the probiotic cultures that are used to ferment it. I assume that's what the OP is trying to get into their diet, although I could be wrong.

If you're not set on it being just for breakfast (or you like potatoes for breakfast!) I really like plain soya yoghurt stirred into mashed potatoes along with some mustard.

Ooh! That sounds really good! I'll have to try that!
