Going to the Hobbit tonight, but I no longer want to, as we have to walk and it's snow raining and cold as fork and work crush wasn't able to go so it's me, my brother, and my friend. I feel like a bad person for thinking I'd walk through hail if it meant work crush was coming along. But I'm kinda a bad person anyway. Also, cramps.

On the bright side, my holiday cards are cute and I'm pumped to send them out. I still need to make some for my family- whoops. And! I think I don't have class tomorrow until 1! Sleep!

My cat has ringworm and I'm going through this right now. Basically any suspicious-looking spot on my skin, I'm putting Lotrimin cream and a giant band-aid on it. I saw something potentially ringworm-y on my leg and I'm not taking any chances. I haaaate iiiiiiiit. Last night we kept him in the closet (with food, water, litterbox) since my boyfriend's relatives were over (they were aware we have a cat with ringworm, though I cannot tell you for the life of me why they still opted to stay with us). He was meowing loudly all night and this morning had a raw patch on his nose from where he was trying to nose his way under the door. UGH. And I was told it's going to take potentially months until we're 'all clear'. Kill me.

My best friend is dating a conservative fish/lobsterman and it's creating a rift in our friendship. I have never said anything to him but he knows I'm vegan and clearly doesn't like me. I've tried to make friendly conversation with him, but nothing. I don't really know what to do about it...

Ugh I want to punch dumb people who say stupid things on facebook.

I have a phone screening interview tomorrow! i'm not even sure what that means, but I'm trying to prep all the questions I can think of for a regular interview. I'm nervous!

Good luck! Phone interviews aren't any different content wise except usually they have a stricter set of questions to run through, so the more focused and concise you can be, the better. Usually they are transcribing your answers to pass along.

You could make a list of bulleted points that you want to squeeze in somewhere, then check them off as you fit them in.

Don't be nervous--just be you!

ETA: these are very common in teaching. Usually it's a HR grunt who doesn't have any stake in the outcome of your interview. They then pass your answers on up the line. So, impressing the phone interview with your personality isn't as important as just giving them what they need.

thanks for that tip! I have my answers typed out, but some of them are reference to longer stories/experiences i've had, so I'll try to tighten those up a bit!

When I have phone interviews or even just random nerve-wracking phone calls I curl up with a bunch of blankets in my ugliest clothes with unbrushed teeth/hair/un-showered and somehow it makes me not so nervous because it's my little secret that I'm a total slob but listen to how great I am on paper!

They say to do the opposite though...so if dressing nicely works for you, go for it. Either way, good luck!

I have done mindfulness for a short time, but I liked it. I see it as a sort of meditation training.

I went to the best play last night (Kafka the Musical!). But let's talk about my awful faux-pas. I had very little sleep the night before last, had had a bout of nausea/vomiting in the morning (related to my iron pills), then I had a super long workday that involved a lot of driving around and other exhausting things. I almost begged my boyfriend for us to stay home (the weather was awful, the roads were bad, and I felt like I was going to drop), but we'd already made a bargain the night before that he would go to our staff party with me if I didn't back out of the play. Anyway, the small theatre company's artistic director is my (future) brother-in-law, and I ended up sitting next to him. The first act was so slow, and I literally fell asleep beside him. I have no idea how long I was out, and fortunately didn't snore or talk in my sleep, but god, how embarrassing. I have a theatre degree and we chat about theatre all the time, so I know this was particularly rude of me! At intermission I downed a black coffee (I am not a coffee drinker, so it made me feel ill, but did the trick), and the second act was absolutely forking amazing. To the point where I cried on the way home because it was so beautiful and it is so shitty that I slept through most of the first.

Moral: SLEEP MORE AT NORMAL TIMES.

It's so hard because my body is going through a lot right now but it's not like I'm going to tell everyone all of that, right? I'm not going to be like "I fell asleep at your amazing play because I puked on the way to work today and I'm not even kidding, my eyelids weigh a thousand pounds".

thanks! I love your phone interview trick! I think I'll go the opposite route (that's what I've heard, too) and dress a little nicer than I normally would. Probably just jeans and a button down. I already have very little confidence and very low self-esteem, and being unshowered and gross (which I am a lot of the time!) doesn't help me feel better about myself. But in general, I'm so with you. Being a slob in the house in sweatpants is totally my preferred state of being.

This is my very first interview as a dietitian, so I'm not expecting anything to come of it. i'm just looking at it as interview practice, so that's making me feel a little less nervous than if i was really invested in getting this job. (btw, it's not the farm to school job i mentioned before)

Hopefully you have the standards, like what are your weaknesses (remember to frame this in a positive light and things you do to overcome them), challenging work experiences, what do you do if you don't know the answer, etc. Think of some specific experiences in school, internships, other work that you can draw upon.
