His name is Hamish MacGoat.

Image

He has the sniffles, and it is very cold and drizzly today. So we let him play in the office.

Image

He likes to eat vegetables.

He is the best goat.

I wish you guys could've seen the expressions on the UPS worker's faces today when they opened the door to deliver a package and saw a goat!

GOATS! I am so in love with two sister goats from the sanctuary I volunteer at. Dorothy and Sadie!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/ ... 3708_o.jpg

Their mom was slaughtered for meat but they were spared and went to the sanctuary. Did you know goats like HUGS?! Because these little ladies can't get enough of them. They're actually all grown up now, but are still so cute.

Also, this is my friend Finnigan (the donkey) being hugged by another farm volunteer. He also LOVES hugs (he is one of my most favourite creatures to hug) and he is so snuggly and just ahhhh, so sweet.

The images are too big to post.

I love goats! Mr MacGoat is especially cute. Is goats milk vegan? I was told a long time ago by a friend that because they produce milk all year round and it's not being stolen from any baby goats that it's technically vegan?! :/

Goat's milk is definitely not vegan. If it comes from an animal, it's not vegan. Your friend may have been thinking it is more humane than cows' milk. I don't think it is. I know people who breed dairy goats for milk. Female goats have to be bred and have babies in order to be milked. (Some can produce milk without giving birth (precocious udder), but it's not common. The goats on dairy farms are being bred so they'll lactate.) Most of the babies are sold to slaughter (especially the males, because they don't produce milk and so are considered "worthless") and so are the older animals who don't produce as much milk anymore. Some farms raise goats in intensive confinement.

The large animal vet visited us this afternoon to check out Hamish. She said he is an Alpine goat, maybe mixed with something else since he's a bit small for the breed. He is only 6-8 months old. And he has a mild upper respiratory infection. So he got a shot of antibiotics, a dewormer, and she gave us some probiotics to give him for the next 5 days. She also said he is a very nice goat!

Well, he was trying to eat the walls yesterday! And he is definitely interested in anything cardboard or paper.

He walks really well on a leash now. It's pretty adorable.

YES. I love how goats just climb the fork out of things.

It's true. My heart hurts with goat yearning. I know a goat would just bounce up on top of the dog house and out of the yard if it were even remotely possible to acquire one. So much <3 for Hamish.

Yes, goats are like that! We had to move the dog/goat house to the middle of Hamish's pen. It used to be in the corner and he would stand on it and hook his front legs over the top of the fence and look over, and we were afraid one day he would climb over the fence.

He's probably going to his new home after chrismas and I am going to miss him sooo much! It's so cool to go to work in the morning and get to play with a goat. Luckily, a local horse stable is interested in him, so I can still visit him if he goes there!

I want a goat! Well, no. I don't really have room for a goat. What I want is a friend with a goat.

This, exactly. I keep trying to talk my neighbors into a goat. They have a backyard hill with grass! --And, no escape route. It would be so perfect. *Sigh*

Today, I was at a tourist attraction and heard a strange sound, I thought maybe a neighboring home had parrots. So, I went in and looked over the fence and guess what!? Goats! A whole flock of them with a bunch of little baby goats. Squeaking!

If the photo turns out I will post it here :)
