PPKparents, I am about to start making a no-sew tutu for my niece, who is nearly five. She is quite tall for her size and quite slender. I have asked her mother many times to measure her waist for me, but no luck so far, and her birthday is in a week. Would someone be able to suggest an estimate on waist size for the elastic waistband? I would be super grateful!

If you know what size she wears (5t?) maybe this can help? http://www.fibergypsy.com/common/children.shtml

I have a skirt I bought on etsy that has an elastic waist, but there's a button sewn inside so that the elastic, which has buttonholes (slits really) cut into it in the middle, can be adjusted (similar to how fuzzibunz can be adjusted, if you're familiar with those). It's simple but works well.

Thank you! I used Tofulish's chart and made the tutu. It's a boofy and cute fairy princess one. Photo to come!
