I'm pissed Darryl's gone, though I'm not sure they could have handled having Merle locked up with them in that prison. He's terrible. I liked the bit where Carol spoke about how Merle gets in your head and makes you believe you deserve the abuse. Made me think of her husband back in the first season.
I know Darryl will be back, but I'm pissed about it!
I like how both leaders (the governor and Rick) are losing their shiitake. Heavy is the head that wears the crown and all that. I hope Rick comes to his senses and realizes he needs Michonne and Cutty*.
*I can't call him Tyrese. He's always going to be Cutty to me.

Something confused me, though. Are we supposed to believe that the Governor raped Maggie? Or does Glen believe that? He said "his friend is a rapist," talking about the governor. I didn't think he raped her - at least we didn't see that. Right?

I just thought he humiliated her and tortured her, but not rape. And Darryl just needs to see how bad Merle is now that he knows how he can get respect and not just abuse from someone. He's been around Carol and Rick and the others enough now that hopefully they've rubbed some of Merle off.

If I had to guess, Daryl will only return to the group after Merle gets presumed dead in some way.I agree with this. Although I believe that one of the reasons why Daryl chose Merle over the group was to protect the group from Merle. He knows what Merle is capable of and he doesn't want to expose them to Merle's evil ways again. Especially Carol.

I think Daryl is capable of feeling that way, but I didn't get the sense he put thought into his decision. He just reacted to the "Merle isn't welcome here" sentiment and went on his way.

daryl's intelligent and keeps his feelings to himself. i wouldn't be surprised if that was his reasoning. (also, he hasn't seen his brother in years, he probably really wants to spend some time with him.)

Daryl's leaving the group struck me as somewhat false, at least initially. It seems to me that his character has developed in a way that would make this unlikely, and they just wanted to underscore that change by exploring the conflict between him and Merle. On the other hand, though, it can be very easy for a person to slip back into old behavior patterns. I do think he would have been a lot more conflicted about it.

I thought Beth's kiss on the cheek was just: "You risked your life to rescue my sister and brought her back safe. Thanks." Sort of like, if someone ran into a burning building and brought my sis out safe, I'd probably do the same. Some speculation that I will spoiler tag: I wasn't real happy with Hershel saying to Glenn, "If anything happened to Maggie ... " and then the same about Glenn. Smells a bit too much like foreshadowing.
We were discussing probabilities about which characters will survive the season, and which ones won't. One of the things I like about the show is that there is so much uncertainty about that. Just offhand I said, "They should kill off Rick." I was kidding around, but the more I think of it, the more I like the idea. Talk about subverting expectations! That would be like dropping an H-bomb. The one character everyone is certain is safe ... BOOOOOM! What a message that would send. "Didn't see that coming, didja? We told you nobody is safe. Now you know."
Not very likely, I know, but WOW.
