I haven't watched yet but idiot me read the Downton thread on Digital Spy so I have been spoiled. I'd heard the actor was leaving though so I wondered if that was going to happen. Recasting doesn't seem Downton's style.

I guess they didn't really have TV to tell them that going on for 5 minutes about how deliriously happy you are is just courting disaster.

I am so unhappy about this. Did they really have to do it on the Christmas special? (or at all?!) Come on. If there is no glimmer of hope (save for Anna and Bates, finally) I'm going to have to stop watching the show.
