to use in a recipe a few months back, and haven't used it sense.
What does the PPK do with Marmite?

Put it on toast? I've heard rumours that you can use it as a flavouring for stews/soups too.

I used to like a little bit of it (say half a teaspoon) mixed with mashed potato and chopped onion in toasted sandwiches

Spread a little EB on the toast first. It helps the marmite spread more evenly and lightly over the toast so you don't get an overwhelming big glop in one spot. Then it's extra nice if you top the marmite toast with some onion slices. I saw someone here saying they used it to make gravy. I haven't tried that yet, but it sounded good. What kind of recipe did you originally buy it for?

It actually was for a gravy recipe, I think I found it from a link from these boards.

Thanks for all the links & ideas. I will try the toast for a snack today, but I may try the mustard on only half to see what the difference tastes like. I hope that doesn't sound like heresy!

I love it on toast with either Earth Balance or peanut butter. That's how we usually eat it but it does also go into any thick veggie stew or gravy.

I love using it in seitan, and it's always an ingredient in my gravies. Also, marmite, tahini, and chili flakes on toast. Best.

If you find you like it with toast, try a few slices of avocado on top of it. (probably skip the EB in this incarnation).

Mmmmmarmite! Echoing what others said, it's great on toast, in soups, stew, gravies, dressings, marinades. It's one of my fave things, really.

I'm a bit hesitant, can someone please describe what it tastes like? Is it like miso?

It's miso-ish. But really salty. A little goes a long way. It's almost like if nooch and bouillon paste and miso had a child, except way better than that sounds.

Stir into any beany/stewy type thing, but bear in mind a little goes a long way. I like it in a thin layer underneath peanut butter on toast. It's also great stirred into baked beans.

Marmite will tear us apart.
I like it best on toast with peanut butter. I am sadly without at the moment.

The one time I tried Marmite (at a PPK meetup!) it reminded me of a thick/viscous soy sauce, but this description seems apt as well.

Marmite is the overly-sweet-two-headed-step-cousin to the amazing Vegemite :)

jogirl wrote: I like it in a thin layer underneath peanut butter on toast. That's called 'both' (because they're they only two toast toppings you need to know about- you can have pb, or marmite, or both!) Mash it into a crispy baked potato with some marge. Have it (with marge) on rice cakes or ryvita. And remember it keeps forever!
