I have experimented on and off with not eating sugar and have sadly figured out that my stomach and my joints much are much happier without it. I love ketchup and bbq sauce so what do I do?? I guess this post should have read, "what do I dip my fries in?" Any sugar-heavy condiment lovers have some advice or just some commiseration?

I'm from Tennessee and have never heard of that north AL bbq sauce. I'm having memories of "horsey" sauce from Arby's. I'm definitely trying it! Thanks pandacookie!

French fries dipped in hummus or refried beans are life changing.
ETA. Also, gravy!

I got the sugar free ketchup once and it was just like dipping fries in tomato paste. Which may be exciting for some but I didn't enjoy it. You can also go the poutine route and smother those fries in gravy and cheese curds.

i dont think ive tried it and the idea at first sounds gross but then if i think about eating veganaise with a french fry as a utensil i kind of warm up to the idea........

I love fries dipped in a mix of ketchup, vegenaise and sriracha. Maybe the sugar-free ketchup would be OK in this? Or you could just do vegenaise and sriracha.
Oops, looks like sriracha (at least the Thai True stuff in my fridge) has sugar too, but maybe another hot sauce or chili paste?

You can get SNS to send you some of that case of sugar free ketchup they found in their pantry.

When I was a kid, I hated ketchup and wasn't really into BBQ. I would usually eat fries plain, but my mom would always make some cheesy sauce for me to dip them in. Salsa, hummus, brown gravy, ranch, buffalo sauce, siracha, and olive oil mixed with nooch, garlic and herbs are all tasty alternatives.
Now I really want some dang fries.

We had fries last night, and I made John P's sauce (updated version). It was good! I'd add more horseradish next time I think. My husband and three of my kids decided it's their new favorite condiment. I have one French fry purist who does not dip. :)
I do love gravy with fries. When I make dressed po' boys from kittee's papa tofu, we use the gravy for fries. It iscrazy good.

As a life-long ketchup hater I've always dipped my fries in mustard.

i am working through a glut of mangoes in my house right now and bet that if you mixed mango puree with sriracha you would have manna from heaven. in fact, mango ketchup would probably be good too.

I love mustard but not for fries. Mango ketchup sounds amazing! But mangoes sadly are not cheap in Nashvegas.

wish i could send you some. i literally filled my hatchback with mangoes the other day.
any other sweet fruit you could whizz up and make a ketchup-ish sauce with? i bet you could even do something with applesauce and some spices and vinegar.
