I've just discovered Lana Del Rey. I know I can be the last to figure out what everyone else already loves, but I didn't see a thread here about her. Any other fans? Her voice reminds me a bit of a cross between Kate Bush and Amy Winehouse. I love the dark, longing, old fashioned yet modern quality of her songs.

I really really dislike her. Her music, her image, her lyrics (I find them really triggering) and then the H&M campaign she did. I had to see her face 50 times a day.

I got her album from amazon at the beginning of the year because it was $2. I really like a couple of the songs. I then made the mistake of reading an article about her that included a picture and now I can't get past the fact that she denies having plastic surgery on her lips.

I like her album Born To Die. But for her as a person I have no opinion. I'm not really in touch with mainstream anything. So other than finding her music and listening to that one album I have no other frame of reference.

She sounds good on the album, but I tried to watch some live performances on youtube and thought she was terrible. So I doubt I'll ever pay to see her live.

Generally speaking, I really like the feel of her music and the sound of her voice, but it's not something I can listen to all the time because her vocal technique is lacking.

Yeah she sounds awful live. I don't know if they are heavily editing her in the studio or she has massive stage fright in front of an audience or what. I was so disappointed when I listened to her live performances.

Mrsbadmouth, maybe she is just getting collagen injections, which are technically not plastic surgery, right? So then she'd be technically correct in saying she hasn't had surgery to make her lips look like a duck bill. ( On the off chance that she is a mutant and those are her real lips, I now feel like a bad person. But there is like zero chance of her lips naturally looking like that, right?)

i got sucked into the hype way early last year and then it just kinda fizzled for me...

She claims that her lips are 100% natural. I googled 'Lana Del Rey plastic surgery' five seconds into watching the video for Video Games because her lips are so swollen in it, it looks like she went right from the plastic surgeon to the shoot.

I listen to "Video Games" all the time but don't listen to much of her other stuff. That song and music video are brilliant.

I read that they digitally altered her lips in that, rather than it being plastic surgery. Can't remember the source though.

I showed that video to a co-worker when I first saw it and her response was "I want to suck on her lips!" so regardless of how her lips got that big, the desired effect worked!

I am completely (and embarrassingly) obsessed with her video to Born to die but mostly because of the hot model. Who seems to be a complete douche in person but whatevs, he's crazy hot. Heh.

If it wasn't for that video I would frown over her denial to have done something to her features and to her bad live performances (when I saw her the first time I thought she was one of those who was better live. Huge disappointment.)

And yes, I live under a rock for discovering her now. Guess that's what happens when you don't get facebook.

Her lips look scary and crazy in that video, and yeah, she's pretty terrible live. She was so much cuter before.

No strong opinion. She has a great voice I think.

You know what's weird? If you look up Lizzy Grant, which is her given name under which she used to perform, she actually sounds good live. What happened? Why can she no longer sing live? (Also, her lips are not scary back in the Lizzy Grant days, so trying to pretend she didn't do anything to them is just stupid.)

I found out about her from tumblr oh, a while back I guess. I really like the songs I have heard and I think she can do whatever she wants with her lips as far as I am concerned. I don't watch a lot of live music so I can't speak on her live. I like her videos, I like her voice, and I think she is pretty.

To be clear, I don't care if people get their whole face rearranged* - when people who have clearly had plastic surgery (she was the one who said the video was 'altered' to make her look like that, another excuse was 'that's just the way I look when I sing) deny it, I think it sends a shitty message. Imagine if Pamela Anderson denied having breast implants or Courtney Cox tried to say that that's just how her face looks when she acts.

I think her live singing isn't great now because she's trying to sound a very specific way? Like I don't think the way she sings comes naturally, so she has to manipulate her voice to get the sound she wants and sometimes it doesn't come out right. That is my totally scientific opinion. I still like her cd, but I didn't buy the new one.

*I always think they end up looking worse, but it's their face so whatevs.

Maybe she had her lips stung by dozens of bees? That would be natural, right?

I randomly really like Lana Del Rey. It was the National Anthem video that hooked me. I like the stylized sound, but haven't heard her live, so I can't say anything about that.

I love her music! I know nothing about her as a person and havent seen any of her videos
