That is so interesting! I find that Americans are probably one of the nationalities least willing to eat raw meat.

In Dutch, an "American Party" is a potluck, or as my Dutch friends described it, "a party in which the guests have to bring the food."

They are mystified by "Dutch oven," though; even though they do make a lot of stews and stuff, it's not like they are particularly likely to have one in the house.

Oh and there's this brand of pizzas, which always cracked me up (you can tell it's american because it has kernels of sweetcorn on top - we put corn on EVERYTHING, don't we!):

Buffet is called "Swedish table" here, because of smörgåsbord.

Yeah, I thought of clarifying that after I posted it, but..

The Dutch love their poop jokes, so they'd probably like that meaning better anyway.

Heh.

Apparently we have Ulster fry, to make sure no one confuses our breakfast with the healthier continental start to the day. It's pretty much the reason we pioneered the portable defibrillator and have some of the best heart surgeons in the world (2% mortality rate on bypass surgeries).

Ulster fry says Yes! (heh) Vegan version.. the original would have fried bacon and fried soda bread too.

a) I don't have a house. I have a home.
b) I only have one kitchen, and it's in my home.
c) But my kitchen and my home happen to be on Long Island. I mean, not the part that people think of as Long Island, but technically....
d) That's racist. You're racist.

Evidence of certain places calling an everything bagel a "Long Island bagel":

http://www.collegetownbagels.com/menu.html

Now, I have thus far been unable to find evidence that anyone outside of the greater Ithaca environs calls them Long Island bagels, but Ithaca is, in fact, a certain place!

I hope the racists on this forums will retract their accusations against myself, my person, my kitchen, and my home, preferably with tears of regret.

i bet alec baldwin would think it's funny, if he could get past how weird it is that anyone would call an everything bagel a long island bagel. but i'm from boston, so i can't throw too many rocks at your house of local slang. i need a sip from the bubbler after i finish my frappe with jimmies because it makes my mouth wicked dry.

speaking of boston, are any of the many regionally named chowders actually specific to those regions?

Ok, I concede, you were right, 1 restaurant in Ithaca calls an everything bagel (are you sure it is an everything bagel?) a Long Island bagel.

IT'S NOT ONE RESTAURANT I WILL SHUT THESE BOARDS DOWN.

Here is evidence of another restaurant calling an everything bagel a "Long Island bagel".

AND YES I'M SURE I LIVED IN ITHACA FOR TWENTY YEARS JESUS CHRIST.

i have eaten dozens of bagels from college town bagels and apparently i am older than the long island bagels moniker, because those suckers were everything bagels. [cue old fart music]
then again i went back there a few years ago and the damn store was so clean i didn't recognize it.
maybe they're now honoring the fact that every fourth student at Cornell is from Long Island?
[other flavors include Montclair Sesame, and Walnut Creek Cinnamon Raisin]
